the island series two
Discussion
Suggestion for next year's series. Four separate islands.
1) 14 regular men
2) 14 regular women
3) 6 squaddies without an NCO
4) 6 mixed men and women aged around 40-55 with a variety of backgrounds.
My money's on a close tie between 3 and 4 - the programmes have shown that the older people cope so much better, and have more practical skills.

The guys seemed to have had it pretty nailed down.
Yeah they were hungry but that was likely to be always the case.
Decent rota's etc, a fire burning for over a month. Good water systems etc.
People wandered off into the jungle and they were concerned if they didn't return in a few hours.... not 3 days like the women.
It felt like the guys one was edited to make it a bit more interesting, and they might have had the odd problem, where as the womens felt edited to show that they weren't brought off early and had to be spoon fed most of the way through.

I was thinking
One island of long term unemployed "but I really want to work"
Another of long term employed at manual bottom of the pile jobs
And another for managers/estate agents/freelance consulting yougurt weaving analysts
Only a couple of steps of further development away from The Running Man! One island of long term unemployed "but I really want to work"

I think whatever credibility the show and Bear "phoned my performance in" Gryls still had, evaporated with the endings of both the womens and the mens series. In both cases they'd spent several weeks showing what incompetent / lazy / fighty muppets they all were, only to completely turn it around in the last few minutes and show them all as best buddies / make out they were all super-successful. In both cases we had Bear "I put two whole days of work into this series" Gryls making out that they had proved they could survive bla bla etc. Er not really, only because you helped them out with miraculously repaired nets / cleaned jerry cans / fish deliveries / tranquilised pigs (men too).
WTF was the sissiness with the turtles about? They were DEAD ANYWAY. So eat them. (not that I'd expect there to be much meat on them since they only came out of their eggs hours before, but still!). Or leave them for a bird to eat. Bunch of jessies.
I think I would like to see a squaddie version, as mentioned in a post above. Trouble is it would probably be over in one episode, with a leader elected, beds made, toilets dug out, and a full stock of food collected before the second ad break. An SAS edition would probably not even make it to one ad break!

SAS edition shows them turning up back at the hotel under their own steam two days later.Gassing Station | TV, Film, Video Streaming & Radio | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
