I watched the first three last night.

I think they're pretty good and I'll stick with it, but it's not without it's flaws. Should probably spoiler these - first three episodes:

I found the sidekick and the bint's 'banter' overacted and annoying, the storyline around the father was totally predictable, the trial of bowling guy came around awfully quickly, and if he wins every fight he's involved in - where's the tension? I'm reminded of the scene in Indiana Jones...

It's got the feel of Heroes for me at the moment, which isn't entirely bad. I agree on the single shot fight scene though, the camera work for that one is excellent.

The sidekick gets better. smile
The storyline of the father is to Daredevil what deads parents are to Batman, it is a defining moment in his development to becoming a vigilante. Can do much about that without causing comic book people to st kittens.
I do know what you mean about the fights, but the tension remains in what i've seen, ramps up when Fisk comes out.

Yeah I appreciate there's a comic book back story, but it's basically identical to Pulp Fiction and you knew what was going to happen as soon as the guys asked him to take a fall. I was like, oh he'll bet on himself, run, get caught and then die. And lo, so it was.

This is a problem when re-telling stories written 50 years ago. By now it's a predictable cliché. But the alternative is a 'reboot' origin story every time you tell the story, usually with diminishing effectiveness.

I like this approach of sticking with the original story, and tell it as well as you can. Predictability is less irksome than implausibility for the sake of originality.

Just checked and the comic dates back to 1964 and that is the original backstory, so perhaps Mr Tarantino is the one who should be apologising? smile

I've finished the entire season now, and whilst I will agree with an earlier poster who suggested it drags a little towards the end (before rushing through the final episode), I thought it was brilliant. First seasons are notoriously difficult as it takes time for the writers and actors to truly understand what they have and when you also take into account the additional baggage of fitting into an existing and hugely successful universe + needing to erase the memory of the previous attempt to put the characters on screen it's nothing short of miraculous what they've managed to achieve IMHO.

And Wilson Fisk should be held up as an example to any writer of how to build a compelling and genuinely believable central villain as should Vincent D'Onofrio for giving such a fantastic performance in the role.

This show sounds decent. SO damn annoying that it's not on real TV.

I reckon you'd really enjoy it Halb based on our previous conversations on here.

There are ways and means of getting hold of it, If you don't mind that kind of thing. Also, Netflix offer a free month upfront so with something like the Amazon Fire Stick etc. you would get access to this + other shows like the excellent House of Cards and Bloodline relatively cheaply on your TV (assuming you have decent wi-fi + internet access).

If they can continue to make shows of this quality I think £5.99 a month is a small price to pay TBH and Netflix are making a compelling case for themselves.

I'd be on netflix (and use iplayers a lot) if I had the connection. But I have a rural connection and have a dl of less than 1mb. I'm currently dloading an episode of Justified from the sky box...from yesterday.
It's been going since yesterday. I am keeping an eye on BT infinity availability....so we shall see.

I thought it was excellent, has there ever been a really well done super hero series like this before?

Wilson Fisk is an amazing character with that actor playing him. I tried my hardest to skip the last episode for a while because I didn't want it to end.

I don't think there has. They've done well to keep so close the source material, rather than feel the need to adapt to a 'target demographic'. This really was the Daredevil from the comic books.

I haven't watched this yet but I'm enjoying Flash, Arrow (not technically super hero) and Gotham (again not a super hero). How does this compare to those?

I'll be subscribing to Netflix I think as its only £6.

Personally I think it's better than all three of those.

Better characters, better acting, and being Netflix it's not shy about not having to tone it down for TV. It really can get quite brutal and several times you really do feel that Daredevil really is fighting to survive, let alone win.

Watched up until 8 last night, enjoyed it very much.

Can't wait to watch some more tonight.

As above, like it better than Arrow or Gotham or Agents of Shield.

Watched the whole series and thought it was decent, 7/10. The Kingpin character was very good, not sure about the guy that played Daredevil though.

Watched the first three and the third episode (where it starts to flesh out the Kingpin character) is where it started to get really good.

I was looking forward to this series, I remember reading all the Daredevil comics 40 years ago so I remembered all the characters and origins etc and it seems to follow fairly closely, of course the whole premise has been yanked into a much darker and violent form.

Picture quality wise it is like nothing else out there, I have been very impressed by Netflix picture quality and this appears to have also been filmed in a particular way. I have a 1080p OLED set so the blacks on this are very impressive. I can't imagine how good it would look in 4K!

Daredevil got pretty dark and grim in the 70s.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daredevil_%28Marvel_...
I think he was one of the first to do it, which gave rise the the later darker versions of various popular characters, like The Dark Knight Returns.
