I enjoyed it, up to a certain point.

Affleck - excellent, I like the way they've rebooted with him as an older Batman with 20 years experience.

Cavill - also excellent, growing into the role more

I liked the way they grew the plot of Batman having a grudge with Superman, liked the Batmobile chase and could handle Luthor for most of the film.

Nice introduction of Wonder Woman, and set up for Justice League

However

The last half hour with Doomsday was st. Plain and simple st.

Part of what made the success of the Nolan trilogy so great was the fact that the super hero world he created was plausible in real life. OK, it was far-fetched to have a bloke running around in a Batsuit, and there was artistic licence in a lot of areas, but it wasn't completely unbelievable.

Same for MoS - as much as an alien living among us and flying around in a blue and red suit can be; it was fairly plausible, if a little over-dramatic at the end.

However, Doomsday in B v S was just CGI paff. Eisenburg over-egged it as Luthor during the last act and it all went a little bit Joel Schumacher frown

It didn't spoil the film completely, but the above is I think part of the reason for the poor critic reviews.

Comic book geeks just see Batman vs Superman and think it's p0rn - even reasonable quality product is worth bashing one out over.

Most worrying thing for me and a sign I'm getting old but I thought yeah I'd still do Holly Hunter.

More thoughts.

Yeah, seems the Flash thing was added mid-film.

SUperman was't that big in my opinion, he was the right size.

Affleck as Batman is physically, the best one so far. 6 foot plus rangy athlete, perfect. I think Bale's Wayne hasn't been bettered though.

I somewhat agree. I thought the early fights were pretty good (not great, not keen on the choppyness), but when the child of LotR troll and the Abomination came in, I thought, 'uh-uh.' It was a tad too long, deffo some ace pieces in there, like Supes in space...and hang on, Gotham is just across the bay from Metroplis? That seems a tad wk! biggrin
I was wondering at one point...there needs to be more too it than this, it's not this big lump, because the trailer DC released last year spunked away the dénouement...but erm no, DC really had bottled it and told everyone what the ending was. Wow.

Oh and Holly Hunter...yes, yes and a again, YES!!!!

I hate that accent. Matthew McConaughey mumbling in that low southern drawl makes Interstellar (an otherwise engaging film) extremely irritating to watch.

I still can't get over the spear. Something Batman risked his life to get ahold of to forge into a weapon, something that can kill Superman, left with a human who puts it in a puddle. Whaaa, just stick it in the batmobile ffs hehe

Saw this last night, got to say I liked it a lot despite it's faults.

Best bits-
  • The way the fight/grudge between Superman/Batman was contrived was very well done I thought, though Supes pretty much sleptwalked into every trap laid for him by everyone.
  • Fight was also good.
  • Liked the nods to the Batman vs Superman & Death of Superman animated film and, presumably, the comic.
  • As said- new Favorite Batman. Bale's was great, but he comes across as a binary psychopath where Affleck is a seriously bitter, angry, weary dude who's just through with fking around and relying on regular justice to to it's job. He's gone full Rorschach.
  • Thought WonderWoman was introduced well, hopefully we'll get a bit more of her character coloured in.
  • Liked pro-superman senator woman, especially her last scene.
  • For a 12A it seems seriously violent!
Worst bits-
  • I didn't hate Luthor, but thought he was super lightweight and not at all malevolent. Maybe this will change wtih his new haircut. He also has weak competition from the other films.
  • Shoehorning in the rest of the Justice league was done terribly compared to MoS and the Marvel films. It's like ZS made the film before the studio realized there were no easter eggs so pasted in a "we'll need to fight together" and a "look at these other DC characters coming soon!" scene on top of an unrelated movie.
  • It's a script problem with any bad guy strong enough to challenge Superman, but Metropolis and Gotham are going to be reduced to ashes by the end of the next movie at the rate these bad guys cause destruction. Two years after Zod/Spaceship trashes Metropolis you have Doomsday basically unleashing a nuclear explosion every five mins wherever he happens to be standing.
  • Am I right in thinking that Doomsday can't fly? If that's the case then they really should have just let Superman push him into outer space. Once he was past the moon he wouldn't be coming back for several lifetimes if at all!

I don't get the distinction. Rorschach was a psychopath with no flexibility, that's why Moore made him the way he did.

I did like Batfleck very much, as above, was very convincing as a guy hardened by years of beating up mobsters who's really done fking around.
Though he still seemed like a likeable billionaire as Wayne. In the Nolan trilogy, Wayne was acting as a rich spoiled man. Here he seems like a strong leader.
It feels more like the sort of person the Animated Series Batman could become, liked that very much.

Jeremy Irons was a great choice as Alfred, I'd have loved to see him in action as well.
Something along the lines of this hehe:

Was average at best.

- the fight between superman and batman was short lived.

- Ben Affleck was good as batman. I wish he had more screen time, a standalone film could be good.

- too many characters in the film, just batman and superman would have been fine. The final act was too long, I would have preferred to see more of batman and superman.

I thought it was a bit of a turd. The actors made a go of it but the direction and story was cack, it spent an hour replaying the end of the last film and then another hour at the end doing exactly the same thing again. I don't know why they stick with Zack Synder, he's completely out of his depth.

Suicide Squad trailer looked fun though.

Watched it again this morning, in 2D sitting at the back, which made for a much better viewing than watching it three rows from the front in IMAX at the premiere.

Still really enjoyed it, took in a lot more of the details, Batfleck still the highlight for me. Couple of things grated though:

The most blatant product placement for Jeep/FCA with Wayne driving this POS:

It could've been anything from the FCA group - a bloody Charge Hellcat even! Just not a sodding Jeep Renegade.

Why does a film need an 'Official Airline Partner'? There's one single shot of an airplane.

Eisenberg's Luthor grated a little the second time, but I still like the way he played it.

Left a bitter taste in my mouth after previous batmans; felt cheap and tacky. I like Ben Afleck but not as a super hero, same with the captain America dude.

W it tonight,it was OK. Dragged a bit,as everyone says, but even the slow bits moved forward. The bonding over mum's name was daft, but handled well in the circumstances. Batfleck was the best thing, new batmobile the second.

I'm somewhat pissed they can't use the TVs Flash, why do they need a new guy.
And as well as Flash and Aquaman on the computer, who was the guy in pieces? Martian Msnhunter?

Did I miss an after credits sequence? CBA to hang around for 20 minutes of credits.
