Much better with further viewings on a smaller screen, and cgi tarkin looks better, I'm not sure if due to him now being smaller (42" 1080p screen) or they have revisited the cgi. I suspect the former. He tripped me out the first viewing and really pullled me out the movie.
As a "non SW geek, but interested party" I didn't even realise it was cgi!

The actor, Guy Henry, who played Tarkin and was used as someone to CGI over is very good. He studied Peter Cushing for ages and even looks a bit like him and can sound like him too.

I think they should have left the CGI out.

I thought it would be available today either on Sky or Amazon Video, but alas, no. Have pre-ordered the BR and resigned myself to waiting 'till next Monday. Strange it isn't also available in 4k BR!

AFIk Disney hasnt done a single 4k disk yet and likely wont until the market has expanded, more likely never will and go pure digital.

Is this out next Monday on iTunes does anyone know? Seems like forever since it came out! I want to see it again!

Should be, the general release date is 10th April.

That has changed, I'm 100% certain that up until last week the release date on my iTunes was showing as April 4th with Xbox and Sky showing as the 10th.

I assumed Apple had some sort of exclusive early release,

I think they should have kept Tarkin to some darkened reflection in the window, who never actually turns to look the people in the eye that he's talking too, in a "becuase he's a snob and thinks he's better than them" type way.

I'm finding mixed information - some sites say 4th April, some say the 10th.

Official Starwars website says 4th (but it doesnt specify whether that is US only - or a simultaneous released)

http://www.starwars.com/news/rogue-one-a-star-wars...

"The film will arrive in a variety formats, including Digital HD on March 24, and Blu-ray, DVD, and On-Demand on April 4."

Upon re-watching, this film has two of the slowest propagating shockwaves ever (Jedha and Scarif)
I know Star Wars doesn't major on realistic physics, but FFS!

It's a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. Local laws of physics may be different. smile
As another poster has commented, the Tarkin/Leia CGI isn't as obtrusive on a smaller screen although it's still noticeable.

I really want to find out who came out with the term 'it pulled me out of the movie' and punch that person repeatedly in the face until it bursts like an egg. If you're watching the movie, how can you 'not be watching the movie' because of a specific scene...?

Having watched Rogue One quite a few times, I really can't see how a CGI Tarkin can ruin your whole experience of the film - the voice was pretty spot on and the digital effects portrayed Peter Cushing pretty well. Certainly much much better than Jeff Bridges in Tron. Maybe CGI Leia was a little creepy looking but overall it was a really good effort and it will continue to get better.

You've said it yourself, it's a good effort but not quite good enough...yet which means this happens

I don't know about pulling me out of the movie but it definitely jarred. I think I'd have preferred if they'd got an actor who looked like Cushing and just used make-up. Given the great hoo-haw they made about using practical effects, the decision to use two CGI characters somewhat unnecessarily seemed dare I say it, a bit Lucas-esque!

Watched the blu ray last night after seeing it once at the cinema, got to say I thought it was even better second time round, although I do believe a film can be interpenetrated a lot by the mood your in. I had the day off yesterday, sat relaxed at 7pm with my 10 year old slightly Star Wars mad son, projector on and some snacks; perfect evening.

Watched it again last night on BR, and liked it more than I did the first (and second) time I seen it at the cinema. The battle, especially the one in space at the end is pure Star Wars eye candy, and one of the best I have seen.

Agreed the space battle at the end is great fun. Looking forward to browsing the "extras" tonight. Sad innit?
