Then hire the trio back to 'reboot' it again.

Like they did the last time Clarkson left TG and it went downhill.

The missoelled crooner? The grills watch the buoys watch the grills while the buoys who watch the whirls go by. Eye to eye, they commonly convene to rip a seam..

Been on the cider again?

None of this is a surprise. It would be a clever coup by Netflix to sign them up...and I think the smart money is on that option. I'm not sure how many of the crew will follow though. I'm pretty sure they'll have to find some new script editors...

I hope May and Hammond get themselves a good deal from this - by all accounts Clarkson is very well off indeed, I'd like to see the others do as well!

I am fairly sure they aren't short a bob or two either!

I agree with Hooli - immensely watchable presenter on his own, when presenting on topics that obviously have personal resonance for him.

Hammond would be well advised to walk now as well - hanging in there will just hurt his own 'brand' now I think.

I agree May's standalone documentaries have been very watchable, but I also enjoyed the ones Clarkson did on the St Nazaire raid and PQ17.

May and Clarkson are both very capable of making non car shows and making them very well. I think a lot of people forget that both of them are still journalists at the end of the day.

I've only watched one of Clarkson's docs, bit I have watched nearly everything that James has done. I don't like wine, but I even enjoyed his wine programs with Oz Clark smile

I don't really know what Hammond has to offer outside of Top Gear. I don't really rate any of his stuff outside of Top Gear. If you read his books, he comes across as his TG persona, which is an angry short bloke.

Metro had a photograph of the three of them walking to the pub after a meeting in Clarkson's home with WillmA

I wonder whether Richard Porter's (TG script editor) sniffpetrol article is a thinly veiled criticism of JC's behaviour or just humour?

I really don't think I want to see them as a trio anymore, for me it was starting to get a bit stale, and Clarkson was the least bearable of the three. If they resurrect it on another channel, he'll just be even more annoying as he's "bigger than Top Gear". I quite fancied the idea of the other two with a new presenter.

So Clarkson has gone, James May appears to have now officially buggered off and now Andy Wilman has resigned as Exec Producer.

I wonder where they'll re-launch their show - in whatever form. Love them or loathe them, they've been a winning team in media terms the world over and there's still a healthy appetite for their product.

They'll need to put it together again somewhere else soon if the formula isn't to become stale in the minds of the viewing audience. I would imagine that they are all in negotiation at present. The movement of personnel suggests as much.

For my own part, they have brightened many a Sunday evening and for all their shortcomings, I wouldn't mind seeing them back on the screen.

In the same way that the the BBC is putting the whole thing across as an opportunity to freshen up a perhaps tired formula, so no doubt Clarkson et al will be doing the same.

We shall see I guess.

Oh come on a night at a bar discussing things and then a resignation is tendered...... you know its going to be announced within a few weeks or so.... Top Gear is no longer its over as far as the BBC is concerned and it may even take the magazine with it.

they say no one is bigger than a program - well this proves that one wrong as Clarkson is top gear. And now he is gone its a dead duck.

Clever guy, for sure. But needs May and Wilman - and to a lesser extent - Hammond to succeed. Top gear without any of them on BBC will be a travesty, with the BBC rules of equality precluding the existing format.

Maybe a less politically controlled outlet may appreciate the StropGear format.
