I thought it as some sort of scare system.
A human couldn't pick up a grown man like that unless he was wearing one of these.

I read the first book recently. Having watched the series so far I don't understand why they have screwed around with the order of events in the book, it doesn't flow anything like as well.
Unimpressed.
I dunno. If it followed the books to the letter it would take a bloody long time before anything actually happened and there'd be lots of episodes of not very much. I like it, and despite it deviating all the bits that are important are all there and it definitely gets the point and the atmosphere across I think. Unimpressed.
I don't know what to make of it now. The Gov't project angle could still play out, but those creatures. They could be mutant medical experiments, but that scene of Boise laying in ruin...
In any case, I am not willing to buy the "centuries into the future" explanation. That helicopter looked current and the crashed cars stored in that bunker didn't seem to have more than a few months dust on them. Pressing a few fake coins with a random date on them doesn't count for much.
I am certainly looking forward to the next episode now though, will now start checking myself rather than wait for this thread to pop back up.

Good episode, did a lot to answer some questions and certainly makes the story more believable. My Gov't research facility theory is no longer.
This series could really take off if they went down more of an action route with regular clashes with the freaks, but I strongly suspect they will churn out cost effective human emotion episodes that take place within one or two locations in the town requiring no special effects or CGI.
Speaking of human emotion, I am not sure if I would want to know if in that situation, but not knowing will clearly lead to many deaths if the defences are breached. At some point more than the children will need to know if the escape faction is to be stopped.

Meant to watch this from day 1, big fan of Matt Dillon, but missed first episode.
Book popped up as recommended on my kindle and have spent last week or so reading the whole trilogy and yesterday watching the entire series so far on catch up. (On staycation, dog sitting at the mo )
Yes, series has moved a lot faster than the books and some characters aren't quite the same but I think it's the best thing on TV since Fargo.
I'm hooked even though I know, depending on what they change, will happen.

It's a Fox show, so 10-13 episodes. This series could really take off if they went down more of an action route with regular clashes with the freaks, but I strongly suspect they will churn out cost effective human emotion episodes that take place within one or two locations in the town requiring no special effects or CGI.

I hope your prediction doesn't come to pass.
