Antiques Roadshow bugs me.

"So, it's a lovely piece of furniture, would you like to know what it's worth?"
"Not at all, I fking humped it all the way down here an 2 buses and 3 trains for the good of my health, you sanctimonious tt."

Of course they want to know what it's worth, fking spit it out and stop pissing about.
And they never say, "Well it's worth fk all!"

They do occasionally. I recall the look of fury on a woman's face when her priceless oil painting was declared a fake. Expert as good as said "if you hold it to the light, you can see the numbers under the paint."
The worst thing about the Antiques Roadshow, is the Antiques Roadshow. Put it on BBC2, on a tuesday morning at 11am, where it belongs.

The worst part is when some boring old cretin produces some trinket they found in their attic / a car boot / junk shop and it turns out to be worth tens of thousands of pounds

"oh, that's nice... I don't think I'll sell it though"

Oh just fk off!

Because I don't believe for a minute they're not going to be selling it as soon as they've walked off camera!

That's true. But then you get the old miser who's hoarded a naval commode for the best part of fifty years after buying it from a naval shipbreakers , convinced it's worth a fortune, only to be told it's a facinating piece with a really interesting history and thanks for letting us see it because it's worth less than your cab fare. hehe

" I must warn you that the following report contains flashing images"

"This report contains some disturbing graphic images"

"This week's lottery numbers in ascending numerical order" (now thankfully amended)

- plus the need to keep moving the camera so we can pretend it's semi-formal and done on a handheld, thereby massively increasing our attention 'cos we cannot concentrate for more than a few nanoseconds...

US TV:

Really pisses me of when they cover a third of the screen in animated crap.

No, because she's been dead for 18 yrs. I'd be amazed if any more than 25% of 13 y/olds had a clue who Prince William's mother was.

"Do NOT try this at home".
This definately!

It popped up on screen while the missus was watching Britains got a limited amount of talent so people from other countries come to compete on saturday and there was a bloke spining plates on sticks while stood on a step ontop of a board balanced on a tube juggling big knives. At no point during the setup or the finished article did I fancy trying that!

If that warning didnt pop up on the telly and some fktard decided to have a go and cut their hand off could they honestly try and sue ITV for not telling them not to?

So to sum up, the OP watches shows that are clearly aimed at the lowest common denominator, then complains that it's aimed at the lowest common denominator?

I swore off these things a couple of years ago, there's so many good movies and TV shows that I realised you'd have to be either really bored or pretty clueless to watch that stuff.

OP, get Netflix and search the net for some good shows to watch (I'm not going to start suggestions here as that'll open up another thread). That way:
  1. You have something good to watch
  2. You don't have to come out to the world that you watch reality TV shows for the blunt knives in the drawer
  3. Maybe, just maybe, the producers see that their format loses viewers and therefore rethink what they're doing
It's win-win, really.

Or

  1. keep watching what you are watching
  2. keep giving it the attention it didn't deserve in the first place
  3. put money in the pockets of those who produce it and encourage them to produce more of it

So these 13yr olds, they're not smart enough to know who Diana was but they're sat watching ITN News?

I think these people know exactly what these things are worth and want to show off to friends and family.

I think it's quite possible for a teenager to be interested in the royal baby without having a clue about members of the family who died years before they were born.

I haven't got an issue with them explaining who Diana is. It's a sign of old age when you can't accept that younger people haven't got the foggiest clue about folk who you think are mega famous that died before they were born.

Why should teenagers know anything about the Royal Family anyway - they aren't generally Daily Express readers.

I think it's more a sign of old age to assume young people are all a bunch of thick, no nothings.

She has her own award, specifically aimed at young people:

I don't think anyone is thick for not knowing about someone who died years before they were born. It's perfectly reasonable for the media to explain the relevance of Diana in the baby's name for the many viewers who may, quite reasonably, not have a clue.

i think this thread hits the nail on the head, of why game of thrones is so successful, you have to think and concentrate on it as to the power struggles and political intrigue going on etc!

or it could be the gratuitous violence and masses of clunge on screen?
