Beauty Salon owner is an arrogant, ignorant prick.

What possesses someone to completely disregard what they have planning permission for and just crack on how you feel.

Looks like he's got away with it too.
I think it's still on-going. The councillor seemed very determined to prove a point. Easy when you're working with someone else's money.

I think he was very stung when the inspector overturned his decision.

Understandable really - clearly the building wasnt as agreed, but the inspector made him out to be the mug.

Chancers, the lot of them.

Didn't understand why caravanman didn't just slice 19" off his mobile home if that would get it under the legal definition and be done with it. It's not like he would have foundations to re-lay or brick wall to shift. As it is, there was a clear legal definition of what defines a caravan, his was outside that definition, deal with it. Can't be letting one person have 19" over or the next one will want 24" and then next one 36" and where does it stop. It needs to stop at the clear legal definition, that's where.
I thought the same, it would be cheaper and easier to do just that.

any one who has tried to argue logic and reason with the planners will know they are self important non elected a--holes. yes most on that program were taking the piss, the castle man used a loop hole which was later closed, but when he built it it was there, but it appears loop holes can be closed retrospectivly. the councils will effectivly bankrupt an individual if they need. i have had an arguement with these self important a -- holes with backing from my MP / councillors and neighbours and NO objections, but they dont back down come what may. they can justifie their bending of rules , but god help any one else who tries.

I was thinking that about the 'caravan' too, he probably could have got away with leaving the roof and floor intact but just creating a veranda type thing at the back.

I felt sorry for him really, what he created was not ugly and didn't bother anyone.

got no time what so ever for travellors, but the caravan people where getting on a bit, why not show some compasion and let them stay till they pop their clogs and then enforce the rules.

He put two 12 foot mobile homes together when the rules say max width 22 foot 4 Very simple buy 2 ten footers

He then worked on I am a gipsy and we don't need planning permission.

Not even an argument otherwise you neighbour will ask for more and more

I watched the prog expecting to hate the castle and its owners - but I liked it and admired them.

I've seen them several times and think the house he built is pretty amazing, but it was so blatant it would send the wrong message if he was allowed to get away with it.

If I was him I would just rent the land to travellers . You could fit dozens of families on that plot evil

Whereas I think they are arrogant chancres who see themselves as above the law. I can't wait to hear that the monstrosity has been demolished.

We're all different I guess smile

They thought they could use a quirk in the law to their advantage. Lots of people try that sort of thing. Just didn't work for them.

Didn't stop them moaning and saying dumb things like "they've got it in for us, what have we ever done to them"?

Mmm, that'll be trying to take the piss out of the planning process mate!

That's true. But when you get into a fight who wants to admit defeat and back down? They've got away with it for a long time, and very nearly succeeded.

He was a proper English nutter in the best sense.

Felt sorry for him, but understand why they can't let him keep it.

Tough one.

So did I. I thought the best outcome for them would be for them to keep it under the loophole they found, but change the law to close it.

The other bloke that added 150% to his house was just blatantly ignoring what had been agreed and building what he wanted. That should not be allowed.

Exactly. They said that the loophole was already tightened as a result of the castle, something about including 'willfully hidden' or somesutch. This, to me, suggests that he operated within the rules at the time.
I think he should have been allowed to keep it.

There's some sort of irony in the fact that nobody seems to have complained about the huge haystack covered with a blue tarpaulin with numerous old tyres hanging over it that he used as 'cover' while building the 'castle'.

I appreciate that it's on Green Belt land but it's not really an eyesore and if the loophole in the law he used has now been closed I don't see how it could be used as a precedent in the future.
