possibly but the plot is he murdered his crew mates in order to save the plants and trees. he was a big psycho space hippie. he wasnt abandoned or had to grow plants he just liked to with his three robots until one died which was probably one of the saddest moments in film history

it wasnt on mars though.

mission to mars a recue mission was sent after the first mission went wrong. teh survivor lived by growing plants for oxygen and food.

Yep definitely Silent Running, great film. One of the few films that has genuinely had me in tears. Who knew a couple of bad special effects tin cans "walking" around could induce such emotion?

I watched a trailer that featured (must have been) the crew to get picked to go save the fella, gave me the impression it would be mostly about them, and it looked good, but the second one is all about Matt Damon, and looks st in comparison.
I've seen Robinson Crusoe on Mars!

I loved the book, brilliantly written, supporting characters aside. Will be interesting to see what is done with them in the movie.

Just back from the movie.

It's great, skips a lot of the problens in the book but they would have bogged it down.

Well worth seeing , the Damon was excellent and there's a very funny moment with the casting too
