All a bit pretentious for me tbh. All the talk of perfection and craftmanship and they have to use an old long handled screwdriver to bend the bonnet catches into place........ Old cars = bodge, always have been, always will be. If you want precision, buy a new F type ;-)
I also think an Eagle E is both a better car (much more useable) and as it makes no claims to be "original" doesn't fall into the "is it an original or not" trap that these "late factory builds" are going to be landed with.

I really enjoyed the programme but couldn't square a few things about the car and owners they said they wanted. It was said that they wanted people to use the cars and race them - great as there will be some places they will be eligible even if not Goodwood or Classic Le Mans. However, if that is the case, reinforced by making 3 bonnets per car in case of incidents, why spend £40k on paint, surely the £10 per litre cellulose would be both more original and a lot more practical if the car were used as apparently intended.
Second thought was about the owner of car #1 - he apparently is very secretive but then buys a car which is incredibly rare and intended to be used, particularly in racing. Quite hard to stay secretive on that basis!!

Next question.
How could they ever be road registered?
Pretty sure they said they weren't road legal. The presenter added nothing to the programme, someone like Harry Metcalfe would have done it justice though. I know Lord March called it a replica, but it was built by the original company had had that 1960s chassis number. How many cars have appeared at Goodwood that been restored from just a handful of original parts? How much of Rowan Atkinson's F1 is original, and how much is that worth? How could they ever be road registered?

I enjoyed the programme but they gilded the lily with the 'everything has to be perfect' mantra and sending a dirty Merc estate to pick up the Danny DeVito doppelganger, was a major own-goal, as it was driven by some white-van man ape, who held the steering wheel with his right-hand at the 10 o'clock position.

If they'd gone down some whimsical journey of digging out parts from a long forgotten parts bin and only built a few missing bits like Aston Martin works would do with a barn find then it would have a bit more credibility. And the bit with the bonnet catch was simply dreadful. I'm sure fettling is needed but to be in a panic with the owner about to turn up was more like an episode of 'car sos' with fuzz messing around with an dodgy alternator.

I bet Jag were well pleased to see Mark Evans smearing his greasy mitt over their freshly polished £40k paint job.
The bracelet on his wrist came incredibly close to the paint. Ring protectors, watch protectors and belt buckle protectors are mandatory, usually. They really should have told him to get away from it to be honest.Jonsv8 said:

I'm pretty sure it was staged by the production company, as we're all the several instances of mild peril that happened just before an ad break. I fking hate mild peril. It wasn't a bad programme really but I bet mark evans would've preferred to get down and dirty with some panel beating or engine building. It likely would never have been made in that context though.
I liked the car, and I like watching Mark Evans - I loved the "is born" series.
However I found the matching suitcase and presentation case and watch a bit poncy and prententious - almost like they had to find the Irish bloke something to do.
I thought it was a bit weird sending a Mercedes estate to go and pick up the buyer as well! Surely you'd send a fully kitted out XJ (and a clean one at that) without an ape at the wheel!
Also annoyed that they played music over the engine!!

I assumed that De Vito made his own way there as it was an unofficial visit. Hence the Merc. However I found the matching suitcase and presentation case and watch a bit poncy and prententious - almost like they had to find the Irish bloke something to do.

Here's an idea: can one of the buyers lend their car to Chris Harris for a day? Then we'd get a vid worth watching
:yawn:As I said above the fact a recreation was racing at the Goodwood Members meet means there is hope for these jags but probably only when the others don't race.
I imagine the first car would got to a collection like Ralph Lauren or someone of similar standing where they are garage queens.
