Ray Winstone used to be genuinely menacing, but he's turned himself into a cartoon version of a cockney hardnut, topped off by those stupid ads.

I just can't take him seriously in anything anymore.

Pacino did a coffee advert too, as mentioned in this scene:

Go to Birmingham.

Oh that was Telly Savalas. I've seen that one. laugh
I always thought the amusing bit was that he referred to it as the sight that "almost" took his breath away.
So there you have it....Birmingham: almost breath-taking.

Ahh yes. It was almost.

I think the funny part is as the camera pans around and it looks like a dystopian wasteland.

The vast majority of the these ads are not shown in the US and therefore have zero impact on their Hollywood images/status/careers. It's just some very well paid moonlightings.

With regards to Harvey Keital, I presume somewhere down the line Tarantino has signed-off the use of "Winston Wolf"?

Frankly the migration of Johnny Rotten to "Sir" John Lydon, Grand Gentleman of Rock, will always be of great amusement to me. I happen to have time for Mr Lydon and his musical work so seeing him in an ad was hilarious!

They should have advertised the butter with a song and dance act - to the tune of Friggin' in the Riggin.
My heart sank when these ads first aired, but I later found out he did them to fund recording the first PiL album in twenty years. And it was a corker, so all good in my books. I saw him on that tour and he's lost none of his magic!!!

Didn't he do AA ad's too?
Yep, AA home care, or whatever they call it; had another expensive divorce to pay for.
There were also the Talking Pages adverts.

I vaguely remember John Cleese doing an ad for a Stereo manufacturer, maybe B&O?...way back in the 80's.

All I can remember is he said "and you don't have 3 plates of spaghetti hanging out of the back" when he turned the unit round to illustrate there weren't any wires.

Apart from a feeble google search which didn't turn anything up, I was wondering if the PH Massive could come up with a result?

I'm sure I read an article about these kinds of adverts. The Japanese really go for old school actors and stuff the pockets of anyone who obliges. However, a lot of the actors have specific details in their contracts that block the use of the adverts outside of Japan.

It's a still from the film Lost in Translation, where his character (a faded movie star) is in Japan filming a commercial for whiskey.

Which reminds me about Joan Collins in another Snickers ad.

It was Mr T. prior to to Joan Collins and Rowan Atkinson!
