Guilt on the BBC's part probably had something to do with it. His Dad wasn't really treated so well by the beeb with relation to the frequent changing of broadcast patterns, the travel for instance. I mean in his later years he was able to broadcast from his home studio to make things a bit easier, but the travel and broadcast times were a real issue for him (10pm-midnight with travel to and from Stowmarket-London three consecutive days/nights per week).

In addition Tom was in the process of setting up online radio and the content was going to be the thousands of records John was sent and just didn't have the airtime to play; back then there was no 6music - but due to the foundations John laid, now there's a complete radio station to take up where John left off. Guilt or not, Tom is another fantastic member of the 6 music team.

Why?

Edited to add, just clicked on the wikipedia link you provided and I was unaware of Tom's extensive resume. Would be idiotic not to have him broadcast on 6music, given his experience.

I didn't realise he was John Peel's son.

Why not have him on the radio though? He's my favourite Six Music DJ so I love listening to him.

Didn't know he was John Peel's son.

But I have never listened to his show and thought "jesus this guy knows fk all about music and is an awful presenter - I wonder how the hell he got this job"

Moreover I have often thought how knowledgable he is about all kinds of music and how natural his presenting style is. Which is probably why 6Music hired him

As this is PH (although this more of a 'tenuous links' thread)...Tom Ravenscroft's cousin - Sacha - used to be a dab hand at finding and fettling Mk I Golf Gti's.

That is all.

If he were still around he would concede that the travel was partly his fault, he hated Essex drivers with a passion and refused to drive through the county!
