I must admit, it was getting a bit stale.

There has been far too much deference paid to the guests in recent years.
Both Lamar and Amstell really did cut their guests down to size - albeit very differently - and it was a joy to watch.
With the litany of 'guest presenters' then Rhod Gilbert that was missing - and it really was it's USP. The episode with Frankie Boyle as host stood out - but its far past its best.

Shame - but it wasn't the same after Lamar left. Amstell gave it a good shot - but I dislike the whole "guest presenter" premise. I don't think HIGNFY has been as good since they booted Angus Deayton and went with guest presenters either.
I think these type of shows work best when there is a rapport between the team captains and the host - and you only really build that up with time.
I tend to watch QI or Mock the Week these days for precisely this reason. They just work better.

I agree with all that. I stopped watching it ages ago as it just got cringey. Jupitus was good but you could see that he was holding together a dead duck.I think these type of shows work best when there is a rapport between the team captains and the host - and you only really build that up with time.

I used to watch years ago - the last presenter I saw was Amstell. It was always very patchy at best, but certainly had it's moments, Ritch Hall was always one of my fave guests, especially on the intros round where never knew any of them and would just say Glen Campbell or 'Like a Rhinestone Cowboy' for all of them!

Haven't seen it in years but had some brilliant moments, such as that Preston guy storming off stage when they made fun of his wife
Didn't the random bloke dragged up on stage to replace Preston jokingly go to get up and walk off in a huff too? IIRC Simon Amstell looked genuinly worried.Gassing Station | TV, Film, Video Streaming & Radio | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
