I agree. Would you really replace all the efficient built-for-purpose robots that build cars with synths that emulate their human equivalents? Doesn't make sense.
I thought that as well. Why do the mining synths even require a face or any features at all? That would surely save on production costs.

Also why does it need any stimulation / input sensors after all it's only digging.
90% of people that use a computer do not need power, storage, ram etc that they are provided with. They get it because that's what the manufacturers make. Its not much cheaper to build a low spec laptop, and then it might not be able to run something on the odd occasion you need it to.

In addition manufacturers don't need to produce computers for specific purposes. they just make the base product, then you decide what you will use it for.

The same would go for a robot designed to do a human task. Just make something that can interact with the world as we do, then it just fits in and does the job.

A bit of a lazy post so I must apologise, but I missed Sundays return episode, where can I watch it?
Sorry, but...definitely a lazy post. It's a Channel 4 program so how about 4OD?

Oh , and as you are lazy, here's the link!

No need to apologise to my apologies wink
My view of TV is quite basic, I generally tend to watch the first four channels and not go much further, so whilst I could have researched it, I thought i'd join in with every other lazy bugger on the 'net and just ask. I was hoping it would be repeated on TV rather than the internet, but the OH has the gubbins to plug her lappy into the TV so maybe we'll catch up that way with all the pauses, jerkiness and general piss poor quality that method brings.
Nevertheless, thank you.

Versatility. There is a good reason why people are shaped the way they are, and in a world that has already been designed to fit around people, it makes sense to make robots that work perfectly in that world and can be tasked with any task.
Mines are not really designed to fit around bi-pods. We have massively effective underground kit that does all the hard manual work and much, much more efficiently than a human-based robot wielding a wooden handle pick axe. (Browse www.sandvik.com for a better idea). At least they are immune from air quality issues.

But the director of this prog. wanted to make a point, which involves the depiction of hard, manual labour. Not his fault he doesn't appreciate what goes on down there...just a shame he has to parade his ignorance.

So, now we know. A top of the range latest model synth is about the price of a 5-series BMW.

I would probably buy one of the older models from the 'Scarlett Johansson' range, which would leave enough money for a descent 3yo hot hatch. But of course this opens the 'new vs used' debate.

Is that the oldest functioning Sharan/Galaxy/Alhambra in existence? Shouldn't it be in a museum?

I like the idea of impressionable kids mimicking synths - that's a good twist imho.

When will the synths demand a vote? And would they back Brexit...

The reduction for wear and tear at return would be massive though wink

Although, unlike a BMW, they fetch a massive premium on the second hand market smile

Just make sure you check the service history to see if the previous owner has ever used adult mode.

It reminded me of the episode of Star Trek The Next Generation where a kid gets rescued by Data from an accident that killed both his parents. In order to cope with the horror of his parents death the kid starts mimicking Data as an emotionless android.

How many people at Xmas parties this year will be claiming 'My bag's split'?

I thought it was a sloooow episode - hope they can inject some pace soon.

I watched the last two episodes and fifteen minutes of last night's, then turned it off. All becoming a tad too silly for me.
