Do you think the problem with jodie kidd was she is that dull or she just wouldn't open up and sound excited if a car was exciting.
put a camera infront of most people, they are dull and uninteresting.being a presenter is a skill few people have, combine that with an in depth knowledge of cars and the car industry, a decent sence of humour, the aura of a normal 'bloke', and your potential list is now tiny.
I'm sure Jodie is a nice enough person etc. but on camera, she just does not come across well.
She seems comfortable in front of the camera, quite happy to let her guard down and muck in as demonstrated on the gadget show and likes fast bikes/cars.

I don't get the anti Chris Evans brigade.
Sometimes he's a little over the top and I can't stand TGFI, but on Radio 2 he's changed his persona to suit his audience. I imagine that he'll be a top gear presenter again rather than Friday night entertainer.
He's also a car enthusiast / petrol head and as such at least qualifies for the job. As a person he's done very well for himself and put a lot back into charity.
I'm perfectly happy to wait and see rather than claim doom.
Please no Chris Harris though. - I know cars can go sideways.

On radio he has a producer talking constantly into his ear, keeping a tight rein on him and the program in general. Once bitten twice shy as far as that is concerned.Sometimes he's a little over the top and I can't stand TGFI, but on Radio 2 he's changed his persona to suit his audience.

As I've said several times in this and other threads now, that alone is not a qualification for the job as there are hundreds of thousands of PH'rs who could fulfil that role but would be crap on TV.surveyor said:

Atonement, plus as an egotist I'm sure he likes the adulation he gets from being seen to be generous. Again, charity donation on its own does not make you a good person.Generally I don't mind him on the radio. I listen to twenty minutes or so each day. He's okay.
The one time I cannot stand his radio show is when he starts going on about carfest. I've never been to the event but his screechy enthusiasm for it on the radio has me wondering why anyone thought to put him on topgear.
But, I guess, it'll probably be okay.

Yeah, and the ticket auctions for the event or to drive the cars on a road trip with CE that go for £££, alienating 99% of the listeneners but its ok because charridee! How long until Carfest is announced as Top Gear Festival for this year? The one time I cannot stand his radio show is when he starts going on about carfest. I'm not green with jealousy because I can't afford to bid those amounts, but I have seen the posts from those that are.

Anyone that doesn't think Evans is a comedy genius is just jealous.

It's the content and the way he delivers it. It's just not good broadcasting.
I think the poster above may also be right about TopGear-Fest. Oh, dear.

I'm willing to bet that particular branding exercise has already been discussed, if not signed off...suffolk009 said:
It's not the auction stuff, that doesn't bother me at all. There's always the "text this number" lottery for less moneyed types.

I've made that point before in this thread. While he think he's trying to maximise the money raised, what he's also doing is narrowing his audience for the show by spending too much time on something that they are not going to be involved in and therefor not engaged on.It's the content and the way he delivers it. It's just not good broadcasting.
The people who end up winning those auctions tend to be the same people who won it the year before and the year before that, so it's a hell of a massive platform to be using to pitch to such a small group.
In the Terry Wogan days the big-ticket auctions were interspersed with lower value ones to keep more people on the hook.
Again, an example of Evans concentrating on something that interests him first and thinking of the audience second.
If you want a classic example of Evans indulging himself, track down a video of the second episode of OFI Sunday, where his interview with James Nesbitt ends up with the two of them talking for ages about some unknown band they saw in a pub, who he then proceeded to introduce and they came on and played (badly). Great way to engage your audience....not.
