I hated Clarkson. I found him boorish, overbearing, predictable and dull. Exactly the kind of public school bully that turns up at parties and gets on everyone's tits. Evans is modest, intelligent, funny and above all can add some much needed sparkle to a tired old TG. I look forward to seeing who the other two are. smile
Funny thing is, that's sort of what I liked about Clarkson. I don't think Evans will work but we'll see; it wouldn't be the first time I've been totally wrong.

This sums it up. The point of a show with a new presenter & new format and only keeping the name says to me 'bye bye' - just let it go BBC, you fked up, poorly handled things and now have to accept the consequences.

Floella Benjamin, Timmy Mallett & Bernie Clifton would be better choices.
Didn't Timmy Mallet give Chris Evans his first break on radio. Evans might be returing the favour. 😉

Would the BBC give a presenter gig to Jodie Kidd, surely they saw her cringe worthy attempts at presenting on the Classic Car Show?

Top Gear was getting on my tits. It's not even a decent car show, Fast & Loud, Wheeler Dealers etc are more my thing.

I suppose with an average age watching of about 10 years old the juvenile antic of Mr Evans will suit the stunts.

Probably not good idea to appoint someone that has a LaFerrari as most other cars will be absolutely st in comparison.

Should have appointed someone with a Nissan Micra as a daily

Good news - at least Chris Evans is a proper petrolhead!

I didn't like him when he was first on radio, but I was probably a decade or so older than his target listeners, but he comes across really well now.

TBH I was getting tired of Clarkson and Hammond's frequently puerile and pointless nonsense - the car rugby at Twickenham springs to mind as a total waste of time. At least James May had some technical understanding.

They were never going to let it die out - I went to Dunsfold the other day with my nephew as his girlfriend had bought him a lap with the Stig (in a Bentley V8-S) and there were queues of people there for fast laps, driving timed laps in the Cee'd and buying T-shirts and other merchandise. It's a good money-maker but surely wouldn't last long without an ongoing TV show.

Thank goodness they didn't get Jodie Kidd - even Quentin Wilson is better than her on the Classic show, and that isn't saying much!

And thank f**k no Jason Plato - if his BTCC exploits are anything to go by all he could show us how to push the car in front out of the way! Suppose he could have had a destruction derby with Matt Neal every episode in different tpyes of car!

Ready to get shot down in flames, but I would have quite liked to have seen Guy Martin!

Or better still Brian Johnson!

Maybe the guest presenter like Have I Got News would have worked, or perhaps have Chris every week with a different guest each week?

Anyway I am just glad it will still be on, and I'll make my mind up when I see it.

You don't know that. The only person that is confirmed is Evans, no one else.

Jodie Kidd was poor in the studio, but much better on the location stuff. At least we know she can drive.

I'm anticipating TFI Friday with cars.

The cynic in me also thinks that his reappearance the other week on TV was to test the water of popularity.
Except TFI Friday was commissioned by Channel 4. So unlikely in my opinion.

I think Top Gear was dead and buried long before now. Evans won't change this. Clarkson et al. might manage to revive their format if they don't have to 'toe the company line' so to speak. Hopefully that's the case.

I'm glad someone has said this. I'm sure that Harris is a nice chap, and there's no doubting his ability and knowledge, but he's no presenter is he? I like some of his videos but not on a mainstream tv programme. Most will find him incredibly boring.

All the above is in my opinion of course. No doubt someone will foam at the mouth and tell me how wrong I am...

I like Clarkson, and think it's a shame that he's no longer presenting Top Gear.

I also like Evans, and I think he was the right choice, mainly because he's a car fan. That was the main thing I wanted, a car person and not just some TV presenter.

If they keep doing the SIARPC I'd love the first guest to be Clarkson, I think it'd be a hilarious interview with them both having essentially swapped seats. "so Jeremy, where do you think you've come ?".

Isn't Evans quite good mates with Plato?

I predict a change of format but still blokes pissing about with cars. Evans, Plato and Danny Baker!

They'd never get Guy Martin to do it, his existing TV work probably pushes the limits of his interest and what he can stand doing.

Thing is, outgoing TG is often likened to a well known entertainment team format of the King of the Castle (JC) accompanied by his wizard (May) and court jester (Hammond).
Evans is too much the court jester to be King.

Of course they would, the BBC is run by utter bell-ends.

The question is whether she is still tied in with any existing/future Classic Car Show contract.
Hopefully she is.

Evans was entirely predictable especially after the hinted twitter and reposte from the former TG presenters.

As said, despite his petrolhead credentials, it will be the Chris Evans Show with cars, so I'm out.
