Woman doesn't like new Top Gear, even though there will be a woman in it, because the presenters are rich and she doesn't like cars. http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/feb/...
Well that doesn't' exactly make the Guardian look clever does it.

Though the comments do rip it to pieces anyway.

Well, even if the new TG is unwatchably dire, there remains some comfort in the thought that it's really upsetting a Guardian columnist.

That's not hate. That's grudging respect.

Well, that's a horrid hate filled piece of writing in the Guardian.

But I was surprised by how evenly divided the comments were. Interestingly the pro Top Gear comments were much less vitriolic. Things like, "I don't particularlyy like period-dramas, so I just don't watch them."

I took offense at this comment:
"Classwarrier 13 Feb 2016 07:18
"I fully agree with this article.
"Anyone who watches Top Gear should be treated like someone who watches child porn."

Given the production quality of top gear, was always good (even if you got sick of the Clarkson cohort) then with Chris Harris' presenting style and undoubted input to production...

Then I can't see why he won't be the star and take what he does well to the next level with a massive budget and team. Let's hope that it rubs off on the others and their content and any group dynamics are ok.

I'm excited to see Harris get access and funding that this brings.

Harris films are boring, unless you are an uber-car-geek. Then again, I would class myself as an uber-car-geek, and I find his films boring - I can never get to the end of one - I tried again the other day and failed. I like his writing though.

Reading Richard Porter's book, it seems the last Top Gear succeeded by bringing together car geeks who were also a lot nuts all in their own individual way.

Wearing shorts all the time and calling yourself monkey does not make you interesting.

I will give new Top Gear a chance but suspect it will be like a rich fifth gear along with their slightly chav celebrity angle. i.e. not Tom Cruise but some bint from Geordie Shore.

I think a lot of people who simply loathed Clarkson's politics are going to find themselves praising this even if it's awful.

No, sorry, I thought he was very good. A bit Lenny Henry, on occasion, at the risk of being stereotypical but eminently watchable

Of course, I love the BBC like a parent. But the problem with Top Gear isn’t simply the lack of diversity of its presenting line-up, or its wrinkle-kneed wardrobe. It’s not its heritage brand of lazy bigotry and short-term greed, its predilection for petrol-powered laziness dressed up as machismo, its weaker-than-Liptons long-running in-jokes, its “I Am the Stig” USB memory sticks or its endless, jaw-slackening rota of reruns. It’s all of it. It’s the cars, motor industry and mentality on which it’s built. It’s the whole petrol-guzzling, self-interested, short-term, pleasure-seeking, morally indifferent, climate-changing, nature-breaking package.
Is she the one who burnt her bra and keeps tripping over her tits, or am I thinking of someone else....?

So, Evans announces this morning that Matt LeBlanc will be a 'guest' on his radio show tomorrow where both of them will get to hear live (along with the audience) their first Top Gear challenge.

Taking this at face value, what does this tell us? That, as some of us suspected taking into account TG has already had 6 months of production and filming, MLeB is a late addition to the team? That Evans, true to form, is making it up on the hoof?

Even that not being the case, does he intend to film the 'reveal' live and incorporate it into the TV show? If so then here's Evans once again imposing his 'life' on all his projects - his radio show is a separate job from TG presenting and the majority of the TG audience worldwide have no knowledge or interest in it.

Either way, it is a clumsy approach to both crafting and promoting the show.

I dont understand the issues? They will have filmed lots of segments over the months to fill the TV series. I suspect all of the TG hosts have been engaged for months, filming for the show with only the BBC releasing the names in the last few weeks.

The challenge with Matt is probaly the last piece and therefore they are using this announcement as a little teaser of whats going to happen.

Top Gear is on the BBC, Chris Evans works for the BBC, he gets over 9millions listeners, its an advert for an upcoming show thats on the BBC, why the hell not include it on his breakfast show? Singers, Actors do it all the time for their new project so make an exception for Chris?

I sense you do not like him much?

The term is interested. Difficult to miss what is going on when he goes so public about it.

You, on the other hand, seem to be following and replying to my post in this tiny-by-comparison forum like a stalker.
