though there were often crowds of people on some parts of the old TG challenges.
..who turned up out of bemusement, or on overseas shoots where the production crew's arrival would have been known in advance because permissions would have been sought, and the news 'leaked' from the relevant authorities.

The only genuinely big crowd I can recall for a TG challenge was the economy-drive that ended with the Blackpool Illuminations switch-on, which would be entirely expected anyway.

Previous Top Gear went to great lengths not to give away the premise of their 'challenges' in advance, leaving people who spotted them to speculate.

Evans doesn't do subtle promotion, as is now blatantly clear. I think this is more attention seeking that clever marketing, and now that it is public there are a million-and-one ways that it can go badly wrong for them, unless of course the intention was to do something unplanned and see what happens, which takes me back to my post months ago that Evans thinks Top Gear really was real-time and will try to 'replicate' his interpretation of it.

No. I want him to buck the trend of his previous TV efforts and not turn it to dross.

Sadly, he is performing 100% to form so far.

I'm trying hard to envisage a scenario where you feel he has bucked this trend..... wink

Apparently the local rugby team will be doing a tug of war against an American football team for this as well, not sure what the relevance to cars is

When he stops resorting to gimmicks, and keeps his thought process under wraps until the product has a semblance of being complete.

Google 'OFI Sunday' and then if you can bear it watch a few episodes of the series for an encapsulation of Evans car-crash TV production.

You will see a lot of similarities with what he did then and what he is doing now.

Wasn't James May in London the other day in a Reliant? It broke down. Both Top Gears doing the same story, with the new guys doing it after the originals.

Ah here it is http://www.mirror.co.uk/3am/celebrity-news/james-m...

That as well.

If everyone just let them get on with it and wait for the TV show to air it will be fine.
They are wilfully displaying their laundry in public (something the previous incumbents tried to avoid doing), so deserve all the attention they get.

I think James May is being too kind and ever-the-gentleman when he says he thinks Evans is deliberately making an arse of it as a ploy.

I would guess it's in keeping with the USA vs UK theme.

This is going from ok to bad.

I don't want a running commentary. Live fking tweets, socially inclusive bks. I don't want to read about everything they are getting up to. I just want to see an excellent tv show.

Well if this thread is anything to go by, good luck with that!

Ginger's not going to be much cop if he can't talk and drive fast at the same time - not forgetting to have to stop every now and again to puke.

Did anyone else look at that photo with a slight sense of dread and thinking of everything that had gone/was going wrong with OldNew Top Gear?

If this thread proves anything, it is that you don't have to actually see anything to determine if it is excellent or otherwise.
