Minder and Sweeney seem to crop up on ITV3 quite regularly.

Minder I find interesting - to see how a Jack-the-Lad type is depicted living in some godawful bedsit with a used Capri as his only asset (other than a leather jacket). But at the time he was living the dream - enough dough to watch Fulham and a place to entertain. Sorted.

Perhaps the best bits though is when someone drives too fast - including in The Professionals - locking wheels regularly and generally throwing the things around with abandon. Great. Probably a whisker away from quite a nasty accident too.

Blakes 7. On...wait for it...video. I purchased the whole boxset a few years back.
I had all those on VHS as well. I missed out on the first video release, then they released four episodes so I bought them. Then we had the entire run re-released, often on a BOGOF at the local HMV shop. I ended up giving all the videos to my sister as I ran out of space to keep them, bought them all on DVD, and I think I've got two series still sealed.

I used to really enjoy it, but when I bought the videos I made a point of trying to re-watch them and some of them were terrible. Not from a story point of view, but just quality of filming, scenery and so on. I think I made the mistake of picking one where there were actual aliens, and they weren't good - most of the "baddies" were at least human in shape so it was just costumes that were sometimes interesting. So I've really only watched the first couple where they all get together (I always enjoy the beginning of stuff, when I can re-watch it), the discovery of Orac, the Liberator being blown up the first time and the last one.

I tend to find a lot of these things I enjoyed look quite dated though. I'd been keeping a lookout for the original 'Survivors' series as I fancied rewatching it, when the BBC launched their new version they showed one or two of the original series on BBC3/4 and it was terrible, almost unwatchable. By contrast, when they re-showed 'Day of the Triffids' recently, that seemed much better even though it was filmed at around the same time.

I was watching Hill St Blues but then got side tracked by BCS and a few other things. It was pretty good so I should pick it back up.
Loved Hill Street Blues as a kid - when and where is this on.

For Christmas I was given Miami Vice series one. The odd ropey bit but much better than I expected after seeing a few early episodes on TV over the years...
I seem to remember it got a little pretentious & disappeared up its own arse in season 2, but after that it was fine.
It goes downhill in season 3 when the quality isn't quite on par with previous seasons as Michael Mann goes on to do Manhunter & Crime Story. Season 4 is rotton with some watchable episodes, season 5 is a bit better.

Me and my 5 year old son watch an episode of Bullseye now before bed, he loves it. The prizes are so naff until someone reminded me this was a time when people rented their TV's and VCR's and foreign holidays were a novelty.

I used to watch it with my dad so it takes me back. It's not aged well but its still a lot of fun

Ah ok. There was a particularly appalling episode where Lt Castillo turns into a ninja to defend a house somewhere.

You can't beat a bit of Bully!

It is a great show. Amazing how dated it all looks now though, some of the clothes and hairdos make you chuckle.

I love how they count out the prize money, 'and there's 30 pounds!'
Didn't you do well?.....fk off! It's all so wonderfully British and low-rent.

The prize money could have been better but there were very strict/mean rules about prizes/money back then. When the rules were finally scrapped that is what gave way to stuff like Who Wants To Be A Millionaire and real money in gameshows....but still peanuts compared to the US stuff. biggrin

"Look what you could've won" - the speedboat, the caravan, the Kadett 1.2 base model...today the contestants would be offered counselling after that kind of patronisation. But back then it was standard fare.

Jim Bowen is an interesting chap - varied background and very bright. Probably the smartest guy in the studio.

Yes, you don't get quiz show hosts these days whipping out a wad of tenners and counting them out...

(Perhaps this should be on the 'council' thread) As a child, I once went to a Pantomime where Jim Bowen was the celebrity star and they had a kids Bullseye competition during the interval.

Old man has season 1 on DVD so borrowed that. Is the rest any good? I got as far as the Vampire dude hanging himself and those kids in the freezer with the hostages.

It's all good from what I remember, but the DVDs aren't the best. I'd have bought them from Amazon but apparently they have been heavily edited from the originals (altered to suit pre-watershed repeats by Channel 4 apparently).
