i contributed earlier but reading this thread since has enlightened me.

top gear did become juvenile humour based on cars, no longer a car show, the jokes were repeated, the presenters were self indulgent, and to be honest, what has happened is the ultimate conclusion of those things.

20 years ago would JC have had a hissy fit about the grub? dunno, i suffer from the odd outburst when my blood sugar's low, never punched anyone.

best to think of it like bottom... eddie and Richie had a similar approach.

I found it strangely enjoyable. Especially the 4x4s skidding towards the watery hole. I say "strangely" because I'm by no means one of the PH "OMG they're getting rid of JC!!" crowd. I look forward to the new TG.

I'm looking forward to ridiculing it, though hope that I'm wrong. wink

I think we all hope for a motoring programme that is informative and actually fun to watch but this is the BBC and it is likely to far more PC than entertainment. I think Chris Evans already has a good amount of people who cannot stand him. Time will tell fingers crossed

I'd say that "entertainment" is exactly what it will be. Much like the current TG. Just not aimed at car enthusiasts.

Which is why it has been so successful.

For everyone hoping for a "motoring programme" then I direct you to the old format of Top Gear that was re-branded as Fifth Gear. Look how popular *that* has been.

I keep coming back to write a reply on this thread but cannot put into words what I'm trying to say smile
All I know is I'll miss it, the three of them clearly love their motoring and loved the job. I doubt we'll ever get a chemistry like that again.
Some of it was poor (mainly when they 'tried' to be funny) but I can watch some of the episodes over and over again, the supercars around Spain highlighting the financial crash, Ceausescu's highway in Romania, The Great British one (currently on Dave now), the various American adventures, the Argentina special, the list goes on, those are just off the top of my head.
Anyway, will look forward to the new series, it's got a lot to live up to.

Exactly they have good people with a love of cars and they probably know as much as anyone but its dull as ditchwater.
