Not a spoiler in so much as it makes no sense until you've seen ep 3 and I'll keep it vague, but where did the woman with the rifle come from who's now hanging with the guy with wyatt issues come from?

I think she's a guest. She doesn't hold the rifle properly.

Easiest way to work out who is a likely to be a guest? Check the hat colour.

She also asks about shooting the baddie outside the sheriff's office, why would another host damage a 'boss' baddie host and more importantly end a narrative. Then going upstairs to play with saloon girl host. My money is on Guest.

Ep1 and 3 were really good. Ep2 seemed to let the side down a little - but was of course referenced in parts in Ep3..

You are presuming they are guests, but I presumed they were hosts, and the holiday bit was narrative. Innocents for black hat guests to slaughter. The boys meeting with Hopkins seems to confirm it. The boy weirds out with snake charming trick. So the stop words can include gestures.

But the boy asks the girl who is painting.

You are one of them"

It certainly was a decent enough episode with lots of things starting to really kick off as mentioned in the post above BUT I too am a little confused. Not because of too many complications in the story-line but because people's motivations seem all over the place.

I can understand the series producers trying to keep the air of mystery going but as an example, we've had Anthony Hopkins waxing lyrical about the hosts and seeming to have formed some sort of connection with them for the last 2 episodes and then all of a sudden for no inexplicable reason he has completely changed tack this episode and is reminding anyone who will listen that they are only machines and not to invest any emotional involvement in them??

Bernard's motivations and behaviour, a bit erratic.

Tech ladies motivations and behaviour a bit erratic.

I know this series is being produced by the same people who do Lost and I started to get a vague Lost-ish feeling as I was watching episode 3 last night which isn't a good thing. That series also tried to do this vague characters with mysterious motivations thing and it soon disappeared up it's own arse under the weight of all that mystery as you couldn't work out what the hell was going. I really hope this series doesn't end up going the same way.

See, I felt the complete opposite. Ep 1 fairly meh, Ep 2 the strongest so far and has got me wanting to watch it as there is now a central plot, Ep 3 was basically setting up storylines which will swirl around the main thread.

Anyhow, having never read the book or seen the film, my theory is Anthony Hopkins is really a Host and Arnold's creation, or a variation on that theme. Happy to chuck in Arnold being a Marlon Brando/Apocalypse Now demi god. Or is that all too obvious? smile

Haha, I was going to say the exact same thing! I hadn't clocked that it was made by the Lost people (although obvious now). The whole 'Arnold' thing did seem have that air of Lost about it, even down to use of symbols/different tribes. Do we have a monster in the woods yet? Oh dear...

I just spotted a few danger signs in episode 3 and it looks like I'm not the only one. I've just found an article that puts it into better words then I could.

I really really hope that they don't go down this path as the show has great potential and I'm really enjoying it so far apart from the Lost-ish bits. HBO please don't mess this up!

Well, my step daughter was really looking forward to enjoying this new series. She told me she switched it off half way through the third episode, and when me and my wife watched it last night, my wife was asleep way before the end.

I am still enjoying it, but I don't think it's one of those series' that I will want to watch again, so I doubt I'll buy the box set when available. It is in danger of disappearing up its own arse.

What's to stop someone (Guest) breaking a chair over another guests head and killing them? Or throwing them through a window? Or strangling them etc?
I think that they "just know" is a suspension of disbelief for West World. Just like Warp Drive is in Star Trek, or Magic is real in LoR.

As long as any Sci-Fi/Fantasy world is internally consistent on these I don't see a problem.

There will be no mention of the 4 letter word on this thread. I never saw it but I am sick and tired of hearing comparisons to it on any show that people don't understand.

It's not that I don't understand it, the 3rd episode just had a few too many beats and cues which started to make it feel like the other programme which can't be mentioned. I really hope I'm wrong though. (We'll probably now find out that Lost was just a previous iteration of Westworld or something)

Ooops sorry mentioned the unmentionable! smile

I had exactly the same thoughts. I'm currently going with the notion that Arnold is actually Anthony Hopkins' younger self, and his creation Dr Ford ended up killing him. I also have an inkling that somebody else in the Westworld management team (the boss-lady?) is a host, but doesn't realise it. Would be the perfect testbed for a government/military application, which I suspect is the upper management/financial backer. All common robot sci-fi tropes, which I'm not sure if I'll be thrilled or disappointed at if they do or don't appear.

Watched Ep3 late last night. Was really looking forward to it but kinda lost (pun there) interest and started playing with my phone. Not a good sign.

Now the gun thing again.

The hosts have guns that only punch! the guests yet can blow a hole in a fellow host and/or object.

This I don't follow as I thought that the host's guns only shot a 'soft' bullet whilst the guest's guns fired the real thing.
