Apparently the gun has a sensor which detects when it's been pointed at a host or guest and alters the velocity of the bullet accordingly? Not really sure how that would work logistically as a piece of metal just shot at less speed is still likely to cause serious injury.

I think you just need to accept in a world where they can create lifelike robots, it's just a part of the science magic.

I don't think the episodes are as complicated as they appeared at first. Last night they revealed some biggish pieces of Delore's daily narrative from dawn till dusk. We pretty much know a good chunk of her narrative and some of choices she offers the guests.

Take the dropped can, we've seen three choices, guest does nothing (and Ted approaches her and they spend day together), black hat guest hassles her and Ted confront him to die; white hat guest attempts seduction. We've seen her arrive back at the ranch early and late (during raid) to find different outcomes.

Clementine daily narrative is starting to be revealed as well.

I think the way they are doing this is actually quite clever and not at all inconsistent.

It's weird that the hosts while not interacting with the guests get on with their own lives though admittedly repeating the same day again and again. I can understand all the extra's\hosts in town but Delores's house is miles from town and yet she gets up everyday, lets the cows out, has the same conversation with her dad, comes back from town and gets raped even if no guests are around to witness it. Doesn't that strike anyone else as a bit odd?

Using a computer game analogy it's like using the computers power to process bits of a game that no one ever sees, why would you bother? Its a waste of resources and I assume increases wear and tear\maintenance on the hosts, why would they not just be offline when no guest are around?

I suppose you have to look at it almost like a free roam/sandbox style game.

All characters have their arc, the pattern they follow etc

Because these are robots (of a kind) rather than pixels they carry on with their arc/pattern at all times in case someone stumbles across them?

It's like Skyrim, ever enter a village and find dead bodies on the ground that weren't there last time?

Whoa! There's some serious over-thinking going on here! smile As well as being superficially entertaining there are lots of underlying plotlines and emerging themes that might reward closer scrutiny if people want...but this is TV entertainment and the suspension of disbelief is required to a certain degree. Thank God this is based on robots and not DNA fixed dinosaurs or this thread would be exploding with righteous indignation and outrage at the liberties taken with cold, hard, scientific fact!

Yes but in a free roam sandbox game you only get the illusion of everyone carrying on with their lives, as soon as you leave that area those "people" no longer get processed taking up precious computing power. They only re-activate when you approach that area again. The whole scene with Delore's and Ted's romance with no one around to watch it, why?

They have sensors\camera's all over the park. Surely it would be much easier to have the hosts offline and then just activate when a guest comes within a certain radius? Just think it's odd as it's not really logical, no company would use resources or operate machinery any more then they really had to. It's used as a plot device to give the hosts more of a human element so you feel sorry for them and it just feels a tad forced.

This. I'm enjoying it for what it is. If I see 1 more question about how the guns differentiate, I'll scream! lol. I thought Ep 3 was clever - the way they reinforce the repeating Host loops with subtle differences as things are starting to change/unravel, and the way they incorporate Hosts having flashbacks, is superb. Although with only 6 or 10 episodes in season 1 (I've seen both numbers bandied about) they're going to have to get a move on. Why Bernard is messing with Dolores' mind I don't understand - talk about playing with fire - but her gradual awakening is very powerful. I'm loving it.

I avoided Lost as everyone began by saying it was the best thing ever and that usually puts me off. I like to discover series for myself. Having friends going on about Lost when it started and then moaning so MUCH about it later, made me glad I hadn't bothered.

No-one's mentioned the face mapping they did to show a young Hopkins in the flash back about Arnold last night; I thought that was superb.

As someone who doesn't think too much into films/series etc, is this pretty much "the truman show" but with a western theme and multiple personalities?
Mix:
Truman show
Jurassic Park
Groundhog Day
Humans
with a bit of Matrix, and you'll get Westworld

However the hosts are autonomous so why not let their narrative unfold and their improv skills deal with creating a true sandbox with a real buffer-fly effect.

Paint it black over the top of the shootout in episode 1 was spot on.

In a sandbox game the programmers can put anyone anywhere so you could get close to Delores in the morning when she is at home but if she stops when there is no one around then how could you meet her after she drops the can? In a computer the NPCs can be anywhere but a physical being would have to go through their story in order to be in the correct place when a customer appears. IMO.

They already explained (I think Ep2) why Hosts carry on interacting with each other when there are no guests around. Its so they learn and continue to improve their behaviours, or somesuch.

Its only TV guys, don't dwell too deeply. smile

Does you TV have an energy saving screen option that might be on? If so your TV image will be dull and darker, it needs to be off or low, whatever gives the brightest screen image.

I have no problems with GoT or Westworld.

I was not impressed with this episode. It is all getting a bit Lost for my tastes.

The problem seems to be that they let the cat out of the bag way too early - the hosts are becoming aware. It's not a difficult idea. Having let us all in on what the end game is they are now treading water trying to pad it all out and doing a poor job of it.

Agreed. I'd have prefered a slightly slower build up. They could have developed the story, shown people having a good time in the park without any mishaps and built up some of the background of the characters for a few weeks before starting to show the darker side and the hosts becoming aware. I suppose though that they have to draw the punters in or risk the show getting cancelled. I really hope they do have something else in the bag though or else they've blown their load too soon.
