Am enjoying WestWorld, I do wonder about the longevity of it, and HBO have had much success with shows over the years, the odd duff one for people will arrive. But for now am happy to sit back and enjoy.

Problems with expectations?

The only people who looked forward to GoT were the readers and general fans of fantasy. It was pretty low key.
Now HBo are in need of a new hit, and everyone is looking to Westworld. It may die under the weight of it's own expectations.

I think at the time, Boardwalk Empire was designed to be the channel's premier show.
I don't agree with this. I was completely unaware of the books when I first starting watching. I just saw the trailers and was impressed by what I saw, not been disappointed so far!
I should have said primarily, yes others saw the sumptuous trailers, I was also in that group. The point remains that expectations were low to nil in comparison to WW. I too was wholly unaware of the books, but have enjoyed fantasy books in general...well written ones that is. No-one in HBO was expecting what turned into their biggest show thus far.

True! re GoT (Plus everyone wanted to see how long Sean Bean would last smile ) Must admit being a fan of the WW film I had hopeful expectations of the Series. Though I am prepared to see it in its own right, I think some people are being to quick to judge it and not appreciate the intricacies (that are needed) so far.

Snake was part of the gang that did the safe robbery in ep 1. It seems to have been a set piece for a while.
I don't think it was always happening, I thought it was brought in so that the storyboard man could get the new speech his was so proud of in which was then never heard because Dr Who shot him (ok Jackson Lake. But am I the only one who thinks it looked like him?) . I think they were more of an out of town bounty hunting story.
It wasn't a "brought in" storyline - it was "brought forward a week" as a tool to cull the upgraded hosts as quickly as poss so they could bring them all in for checking. This was at the time they were starting to suspect there was a major problem with the upgrade. Snake was in that gang but whether she had her snake tattoo at the time, I can't remember. As she's now in the "Wyatt" story arc that Ford created, maybe she's had some enhancement to go with that (ie the tattoo and new back story).

Now we've got to Ep 4 and some are upset its not attracting them like GoT, will they please now do us a favour and stop commenting on the fact they're not enjoying it?! Please go and start a "we don't like Westworld anymore" thread or something laugh I never watched GoT and have no interest in it. That's why I'm reading a Westworld thread. Pleeeease? smile

Silly post, I think.

I want Westworld to be great, and I really do enjoy it. What I was picking up on was the fact that everyone I know except me has stopped watching it. If this is a microcosm of viewing habits, I fear for future seasons being commissioned. I do not want it to end prematurely, but I also have to face the fact that for many, it is plain boring. No amount of metaphorical feet stamping from you is likely to change that fact, is it?

Calm down, I wasn't having a go at you. Or anyone really - there have been quite a few "oh I'm bored of this now and don't watch" posts over the last couple of weeks; I just can't really see the point. I understood your post perfectly - all 3 of us started watching here but step daughter lost interest as it was too slow for her, and I think my wife is doing the same - she prefers lots of action and not much subtlety. On the tv I mean biggrin

So its just me - but I'm happy with that, I Sky box it and watch it when they're both out and I can give it the attention it needs. It really is the kind of programme that you need to watch, not just have on while staring at your phone/ipad etc. I suspect some people asking questions in this thread are doing just that and missing the clues.

So what if the "Man in Black" is Arnold? Just an idea. Originally Arnold, whilst consumed with creating true sentience (the Pyramid drawn on the Blackboard by Ford) is badly injured, uses his knowledge of Robotics to repair himself. During this process he see's that the real key/ next step to becoming self aware is a combination of Man & Robot. This belief means that everything he worked for within the Park is meaningless, so he leaves, giving up on his original idea's & in his new Hybrid state with a new point of view, essentially means that "Arnold" is dead?
Whilst in the outside World he creates his foundation mentioned by the young Guy in Episode 4 who
is
"a big fan, I just wanted to say thank-you to your foundation for saving my Sister"
a foundation set up to help, rebuild save those with serious injuries (just as he was)?
This would also help explain why the Man in Black was
"Born here"
& why
"That Gentleman" gets anything he wants"
May also explain why he's
"been coming here for 30 years"
His desire to find the Maze is because he knows that this is where you can get hurt, where there is real danger. Maybe he means danger to the Robots because he now has the Key to sentience & wants to make all of them self aware meaning they would therefore face real danger, real pain?
May explain why he always wears Gloves, he has the original, 30 year old "not very convincing" Hands.

Then again maybe I'm seriously overthinking it all, it's a TV show & the Character just has loads of Cash & likes the Color Black

No! YOu're not! The writers and creators want you to think this, they want you to think! A lot of, if not all of HBO's dramas are built on suplot, and subtext. When I read essay's on HBO dramas (and others, like Breaking Bad) I am sometimes mildly surprised at what is revealed through dissection. Anyone who says to you, you are over thinking it can get fked and go and watch The Flumps.

I agree. Although I'm not sure I've given up on it, but definitely up it's own @rse. I may well leave and then pick up in 2-3 episodes time so I can watch them back to back.

Does any one else get the feeling the MIB story arc may be happening at a different time period to the other storyline.

Might be totally off track but his story doesn't seem to quite sync with the rest.

You're not the first to mention that - but the humans in charge of the park have interacted with his "time period" and that of, say, William and Dolores. Which would indicate its in the same period.

Unless...

Westworld is also run by robots who go on forever (which I don't think is the case).

Or are they a different set of humans controlling his 'time period.'

I may be totally wrong but I think there will be a twist of some sort at the end of this season.

Things are moving on and developing nicely after a bit of a slow start. It's clear now that the MiB is a guest who's been coming here for a long time and the synths are starting to remember

I'm one of those who sits back and watches it unfold rather than try to second guess every aspect. I'm not a prolific TV watcher (early '24' was the last thing that I got in to) but caught a couple of episodes on sky player and have enjoyed the subsequent offerings. If everything was revealed early on, people would be moaning how they stretch out the rest of the series. For me, in my no expert chair, it's nicely paced and enough to keep me watching.
