I bought the DVD, the blueray and on amazon to help get the figures up.

It was the US distributor who CBA advertising it that made it fail in the cinemas in the US, not the film.
Superb film - they obviously didn't have a huge budget for vfx and sets like the earlier Stallone travesty but Karl Urban really nailed the Dredd character.

Great 3D on the bluray, too.

If the current mania for R rated comic book/superhero movies results in 'Dredd 2' it will have been worth it.
Karl Urban is the same as Ryan Reynolds, they were fans of Dredd and Deadpool before they were popular actors.

they both wanted to see true to the comic versions on the silver screen as much as the rest of the fans.

Karl Urban was just so perfect for Dredd.

Although Kick Ass 2 wasn't as good as Kick Ass, it had a smaller budget.

Deadpool 2 with have a small budget says writers - http://www.gamespot.com/articles/deadpool-sequel-w...

A quick Google shows that she's taken her clothes off many many times on camera.

Not sure she does in Firefly - she is just damn seductive.
And Firefly is absolutely awesome for other reasons too.
Not least of which is the young Christina Hendricks.

The trailer for this made it look a bit erm.....crap so had avoided it until recently.

I decided to watch it after the steaming crock of turd that the new batman v superman film turned out to be.

Deadpool was bloody superb, great soundtrack too.

I never saw this at the cinema but bought the Bluray last night. What a brilliant film. Probably my favourite superhero movie since the Dark Knight films.

I got it from my sweet little girl who obviously has no idea what it's about.
I'm home tomorrow all day so I've got the afternoon slot bookmarked!

Some very good points there.
Indeed.

In the 2000s we started getting sequels and prequels that were rated much lower than the franchise on which they were based on. This was presumably done as a cynical marketing ploy to try and up the available audience and resulted in some terrible films that were cut to death just to meet those ratings- or movies which lost the edge that the originals had.

We also started getting remakes of movies that were "dark and gritty" - again with mixed success.

I can see Holywood going the opposite way now - making movies or franchises r-rated for the sake of it, or introducing unnecessary levels or humour - thinking they will have a winning formula in doing so. If this is the case - they will have totally missed the point.

There is no one size fits all formula - each movie has to be taken on it's merits, has to have a good story and has to be as dark or as humorous as the characters and setting require. Just throwing in some toilet humour, puns or some 4th wall breaking won't instantly make for good films.
I loved Deadpool

I also really liked Iron Man 1 and CA:Winter Soldier.

To me these sort of movies should either be gritty and realistic about "super powers" in the real world or, like Deadpool, embrace the absurdity of it all.

I am not at all sure it is simply about following the source material, respect it certainly, but it requires far more than that to make a movie that the audience will love (most of whom wont have read the comics).

When you look back at some of the rubbish lately. The Iron man sequels, Thor 2, Avengers:Age of Ultron, the hit to miss ratio isn't high enough. Too many characters, painful plodding dialogue, big CGI ending set piece with no sense of threat, it all follows a similar plodding path and whether it is "faithful" or not doesn't make it good.

When they stop following the source material, everything starts to merge into the same format. The 'dark' format being a good example.

Deadpool has been nominated for a marketing award. So RR has suited up again as Deadpool to show how great the marketing was for the Deadpool movie. Because the 4th wall is so smashed up now that it's fine for the main character in the movie to talk about the promotion for movie, in a promo biggrin

Oh and NSFW, obviously... http://io9.gizmodo.com/watch-deadpool-praise-the-d...

Technically Ryan Reynolds got into the voice booth again because all the rest uses previous clips with new voiceover..... biggrin
