I like a lot of the south park work.
I don't like Austin Powers.

I remember seeing this as a teen, thinking it was very funny in some parts and way too silly in others. I vaguely remember Matt Damon and Kim Jung Ill being very funny.

I think its an age/time thing. It was released in 2004 and those who were the right age and watched it at the time have it down as a cult film (I'm one of them) but I reckon if I came to it now being 11 years down the line I'm not sure I'd get it.
A lot of it was based on having a team of lunatics like Bush and Rumsfeld in charge so I guess it has a little less relevance now.

That said, the same dumb, "good guys vs. bad guys" understanding of terrorism that Team America satirised is still very much with us (for evidence; see any Pistonheads thread about Islamic extremism).

I joyed the film when it first came out having watched a lot of South Park.

It is one of those films I have to 'make' myself watch. Some bits are down right lamer than a duck on crutches but there are some utter gems.

As with Zod I can't hear/read/see anything about Islamic Extremists in the Middle East without doing the "Dirka dierka, Balkalaka" thing in my head.

On the other hand the blowjob scene just left me very "Meh."

I think that it is the way with this sort of comedy. There will be bits that make you wet yourself and bits that make you think "I am very open minded, but really?" If you don't like it then there is no shame, nor anything wrong with you. 'Edgy' humour should not be comfortable all the time!

When the film first came out in the US, I asked the man in an Orlando cinema ticket booth what the film was like, he replied in a southern drawl,..

"Son, I'm no prude, but that film is god damn o-ffensive!"

I took this as a recommendation, and bought a ticket.

If you don't laugh at the bit at the beginning where he's singing the Aids song then you're dead inside and ronely, you're so ronely...

The sex scene, the celebrity deaths ( Susan Sarandon - splat !) and poking fun at Sean Penn. The Kim Jong Il scenes steel it though.

I've never watched a full episode of South Park but think Team America is brilliant. It is the DVD that spends the longest time in the car's DVD player... the part where the terrorists "brew" up Panama Canal and the following ten seconds or so sounds very good through the BOSE.

Some of South Park is genius. Its timeless and some parts very clever looking at adults/adult behaviour.

I also found the South Park movie very funny but I was waiting for something to 'click' on Team America. It just didn't. frown
Interestingly enough I've always thought that South Park is utter ste but I really enjoy Team America and I don't know why because I feel I should enjoy South Park.

I don't think I've ever laughed so much at a movie. It's just brilliant.
