Not that happy to be honest but then what did i suspect, given the budget the show demands. My experiences of Amazon have been crap at the best so handing them a fistful of notes would be a bitter pill to swallow to watch the only program on TV that used to be worth watching between all the fluff, filler and bks that's makes up TV now with very few interesting programs around.

But it'll probably be better than Evans so hmmm.

I'm not paying any more to watch TV/films now. TV licence, NetFlix and a full Sky HD subscription is enough for me, thanks.
Purely on a personal basis, this. IMO it's a shame they didn't sign to Netflix (I thought this was announced a few weeks ago anyway?)

But I'm sure there's plenty of people on Amazon Prime and not on Netflix who are as pleased as I'm displeased.

With Netflix constantly doing excellently with their acquirement of shows, I'd just assumed it would definitely be Netflix, and now I'm disappointed.

Won't be signing up just to watch this.

IDK if it's changed, but originally, Netflix was only SD, so I never bothered.
And I PAY more tax than Amazon, so they can poke it too.

Most stuff on Netflix is HD, some stuff like Breaking Bad and House of Cards is available in 4K.

Don't think I've seen anything on Netflix that's SD, although if the source is SD there's nothing they can do!

Yeah they're pushing 4k content too.

Netflix pretty much led/is leading the way on HD streaming, been available for at least as long as the service has been in available in the UK.

Some devices could only manage SD though, but that was stuff like the Wii. Also, if the connection is poor it will dynamically drop back to a lower bitrate stream.

I'm surprised how many people seem to have Prime just for next day delivery. What sort of things are people buying lots of (to justify £80) where it's important to have it next day but not important enough to have it today and therefore buy it locally?
It's not just next day, some items a free postage.

My wife had prime as she buys bits all the time for the weeee boy. Also anyone else in the household can have prime. So I have prime on my account but the wife pays for it on hers.

Keep this one quite...... On smart TVs or any other device you can log in with the same password. So my father and father in law are both watching prime on our account. So 4 people benefitting from one account :-)

Also bare in mind that Amazon also make their own series. Vikings was great on the History channel but series 3 and 4 (I think) were only on Amazon. This was also the case for Ripper Street. I expect more to go that way.

I imagine that that will be over several years and subject to various targets and requirements. Plus, it may also include the production budget also. Regardless, good for them.
I imagine it certainly includes the production budget.

$250M for 36 episodes is allot of money in TV terms.

For comparison GOT costs around $60 million a season (10 episodes) and that is lauded for its production values.

I find it funny that people think it will be "tired" before they have even seen it. With that sort of money, and with the opportunity to have a refresh, it could be very special.

It's only £80.

£80 to all-but-eliminate my need to ever visit shops is the biggest bargain going.

I wonder if they will be obliged to be more global, ie. go over to America and test muscle cars etc to appeal to the audience over there (and be less rude about them).

Brilliant news as I already have Amazon Prime so it's a no extra cost option for me.

Also that its not just the three presenters, its also the producer Wilman that can ONLY be good news.
I'll miss the top gear test track as that was a set standard to guage all cars/drivers on and a good center line.

As for the BBC..well I fear that their days are numbered. Chris Evans has disrupted everything he toutches from radio to TV and turns established programs into what is basically the same thing..the "Chris Evans Show"..

I note that he has already said that "He is in charge, he will decide, he will pick the new presenters..etc..etc..etc.."

As for J Kidd ! are the BBC serious? Have any of their execs sat down and watched the program she does with Quentin Wilson? I lated about 5 mins of their fubbed lines, poor presentation and rubbish before I turned it off.

The new BBC "TopGear" will kill off the acceptance of a licence fee further.. pity but with the self centered overpaid senior management at the BBC more interested in office politics and pension funds than the viewing public their days are numbered anyway.

Being at home laid up with a broken foot (motorcycle) and laid up I note that Ive actually hardly watched the TV and have been watching iPad played series from the Amazon Streaming library most of the time. Even with the loaded iPlayer app I've not watched the BBC at all in the past 5 weeks (On holiday for two) and interestingly dont miss it much. Piston Heads web site has featured more in my viewing along with Ch4/Quest motoring programs.

PS I did hear some gossip though...that a certain SW based F1 driver might appear in person as a "professional standard" driver to replace the hole left by the killing off of the "Stig" slot in the new Amazon CMHW Motoring "Best Car" program...(Clarson, May, Hammon, Wilman).

As I am a fan of that particular F1 driver from the SW I keen for it to start early in 2016.

If Amazon could also get a certain Piston Heads test driver/presenter that would be the icing on the cake !

Ive got both Netflix and Amazon "prime". Having used it extensivly in the last month I can say without predudice that Amazon is the better service, easy to navigate, better streaming (BT Infinity) and more actual content. Although I have noticed that some series that were "prime" (free to prime members) change over time so best to watch the whole series as and when they become available as "prime" features.
The Netfilx membership was a present but I wont be renewing.
As for Amazon..their new delivery service for prime membership means you dont pay for delivery of "prime" items. I ordered a new warenteed iPad mini retina cellular 16Gb last Saturday night at 10:45pm and it arrived at 10:15 am on the Sunday morning ! Cant get a better price or delivery than that. At £250 it was cheaper than some second hand mail theft no star ebay special !

But again it's down to choice. I suspect many BBC viewers will watch the Chris Evans show (with a mild "motoring content") for at least the first 2-3 but those with Amazon membership already I suspect wont bother and BBC viewing numbers will drop like a stone and be no where near to the old CHMW (Clarkson, Hammon May, Wilman) version...

This! I buy absolutely everything bar food from Amazon. Hate shops so it's a no brainier for me too.
Toilet roll and kitchen roll included..all birthday presents, bulbs etc etc.

I'm a massive fan, although I am lucky as I get delivered to work so have never missed anything as it comes with the post.

In terms of movies I personally think Now TV wipes the floor with both, but for some reason it doesn't seem to have taken off to the same degree (maybe most people sign up for the TV stuff?) Loads of fairly recent stuff, a well curated back catalogue and very little filler. The box was free and it's available through Apple TV, so a win-win for me as it meant we could have it in two rooms at no cost.

Amazon and Netflix have a similar level of movie content, i.e. the occasional newish exclusive, a fairly extensive but quite random decent back-catalogue and then a whole lot of utter trash to boost the content number.

I'm also slightly annoyed with Amazon, having started a free trial last year and watched some of Community, I now discover it's behind a paywall. Overall in terms of value it's hard to beat though, particuarly as I use Prime Delivery and CloudDrive for photos quite heavily.

Won't be watching unfortunately. Would if it was free to air, but not on a model where I do not hold a subscription for other material.

I will just come on here and sift through the comments after each episode to fully understand what happened in immense detail free of charge. smile

Netflix also has an SD-only plan. For £1 less, not really worth it.

My thoughts exactly , can't justice Amazon's poor content just for this. Think they have made a big mistake as Netflix is established and would keep a large part of their audience. Amazon is to unestablished to the UK market. Think they have sold out and just chased the highest bidder..very sad for the viewers
