Britains Spending Secrets
Discussion
I thought it was very interesting that Mr Aspirational's wife, who brought most, if not all of the family's income, drove a Kia. I'm not sure what the car alloance is that goes with her job, but I'd put a pint on it being more than a Kia costs to run.
I wonder what she will think when she watches it...

Banking woman on £90K a year must have self esteem lower than a snakes fanny to end up married to a wastrel like him!
I've never understood how some women can be so successful and driven in their professional lives yet set the bar so low in their personal lives.
Still, I'm glad some do, otherwise I'd still be single!

Alfie Best seemingly not all he's cracked up to be either.

Absolutely no way that Laura Ward-Ongley woman or her fabtips/fabtrade company is worth £2m, it appears to be a 2 year old, one-person business, operating under multiple names, which all come back to FabTips Ltd, that just tweets/facebooks/blogs, with a sideline in video editing. Some BBC researcher just fell for her blag I think.

That's a shame, i was thinking "good for her". Now i'm thinking she must be delusional. How odd that she has a £2m valuation on a company with net assets of £-11k.
I wonder how she can afford 50k a year in hotels...

When they were going through the house of the couple from Northants i genuinely thought they were going to have 2 or 3 x the income they did. Especially given the bulk of the salary is from just her so not as tax friendly as earning £50k each, mad load of crap. But it did highlight to me that you can live a really nice life on what is not a vast amount of money outside of the SE, that house was £400k it said, made me consider a move to Bedford given that buys you a crap 2 bed flat round where I am (and many others in London area I would imagine).
They were an odd couple. I wonder if the 100k income is net or gross. If that is 100k gross it's only going to be 60-70k net. They appeared to have a decent lifestyle but very materialistic. They seem quite wasteful, 10k savings on 100k income is not good in the slightest.
Neither is a 14 hour working day for the mrs while he plays pool. She left at 5:30am and back at 7:30pm would not like to be in her shoes. She looked drained.
I'd imagine they also have a huge mortgage outstanding. 50k on private schools, they must be dreaming.
This family belong in the "a bit ph private" thread - even though i have not worked out if that thread is srs or not yet.
Also loved that bit where he is going on about "liking his designer clothes" while looking like stig of the dump

The beauty of using different names to become a company director, other than the one on your birth certificate.https://www.duedil.com/company/04128194/shelfside-...
Still not worth £200 million though.

and maybe even Alfie, though at least he's likeable, even if he has worse taste than a minor Arab dictator.
I liked alfie, probably came across as most down to earth on the show. I liked his take on how he views possessions without emotion, buys them as assets at distressed prices, enjoys them for a while, adds value, sells them on...
He seems like the kind of guy who could go back to the caravan lifestyle tomorrow and still have a laugh which is a good quality to have!
Really surprised at how likeable and cheeky Anne Robinson came across, she seems quite likeable in "real life"...

I would suggest that Most people are not as "well-off" as the image they portray would suggest.
You can have a very nice life on a not massive income, especially if you *do* things that you enjoy rather than just *buy* things to "impress" friends and neighbours.
A lot of people always want more, but often trade their free-time for it and all they then do is spend more on more expensive versions of what they already have.

Sure, it's hard one to judge (look at 50 cent, forbes said he was "worth" 150m until last month). Still not worth £200 million though.

Those companies however show substantial assets. He may also have funds in personal name / offshore etc from previous trading. Also, if he buys his land and develops the parks, his company assets may not reflect the true market value of the operation. 200m does seem steep however.
He seems like a humble guy. Buys 4 suits at a time from an outlet to get a good deal!

Yeah and he drove a fabia. I would have put good money on them driving a white 2.0 diesel audi or one series I wonder what she will think when she watches it...
Is there anyone like me left in Britain? I go out of my way to create an image of being far poorer than I am.
I find that if people think I've got nothing, they are less likely to tap me up for money. Also, I quite like to be underestimated. I think in life that gives you an advantage.
