Also going to watch another couple or good ones this weekend again, The Station Agent and Sideways
We've watched both of those gain recently. Great films, especially The Station Agent for me.

previews to the Civil War film included: X-Men then Suicide Squad, both of which really look amazing so really looking forward to this. Dr Strange is out in October I'm thinking and then there is Rogue One the 1st 'Star Wars Universe' film not forgetting the new Star Trek film in a few months time wink

Not really excited about Suicide Squad, but I'll watch it.
Looking forward to Civil War, as another stone in the MCU wall. Sort of looking forward to Dr Strange, and ambivalent about X-Men:Apoc.

I've got nothing against the coming of age genre, "Stand by Me" is a classic movie and a recent great example would be "The Way Way Back" which I thoroughly enjoyed.
THe Way Way Back is on Film4 on Fridat at 9pm.
In my experience, Sam Rockwell is a marker of quality, rarely a leading man in blockbusters but always seems to be in clever, interesting films.
Just watched 'The way way back' once again Rockwell doesn't disappoint. 8/10

Body of Lies.

It was a bit...meh... OK. If it's on you could watch it but you wouldn't go out of your way...

For some reason the X-Men reboots have never tickled my interest. Maybe because the originals are still in my head. I think my ambivalence to Suicide Squad is almost entirely down to Will Smith who tends to simply play Will Smith in every movie.

It may be a factor of his fame and I'm giving his acting unfair criticism (I've heard he was great in Ali), but he feels too big to be in a team film.

Still working my way through Nymphomaniac Vol1. It's rather involving.

London has fallen

tosh. utter risible tosh. rubbish script, rubbish effects, rubbish editing and frankly how they got so many stars to get together for this is beyond me.

the first film was a no brainer but decent action flick. the second one was toshy mctoshface. 2/10

Anyway..Triple 9-Bad cops rob banks, good cops try to catch them,Winslet as Russian(?) mob boss, very strange role for her.
Started Heatish then went downhill, felt like I'd seen it all before but ok-ish.6.5/10.

Yeah, can we also have a thread for all of those poncey foreign films with subtitles? And can we put Scotch films in there, too?
Alcohol or sticky tape versions, it isn't really clear.

Sicario (2015)

Superb, easy 8/10.

Ending could be a little stronger but that's just picking holes.

War of the worlds (the Tom cruise / Spielberg one)

Much better than I remember. On release I was really disappointed as it wasn't an adaptation of the source material.
Coming back to it over a decade after seeing at the cinema I really enjoyed it. The family elements that annoyed me back then were the key to enjoying the film. I suppose it helps that my eldest is roughly the same age as the daughter in the movie.
There are issues, but there is also a lot of Spielberg at his best as well.

8/10

Just finished watching Maggie. A bit slow and bordline cheesy at times, but overall I thought it was a great film - very moving. Arnie was great.

7 - 10 from me.
