I know these are now quite old in the Films stakes but;
Managed to watch The legend of Tarzan the other day, not sure if I was impressed or not.
I love Tarzan films, books, the cartoon by Disney and I think I was expecting something along the lines of the Disney film, a sort of coming of age in the jungle. This one was flash back. I kind of realised, Tarzan can't be Tarzan without being in the Jungle. Enjoyed watching Margot Robbie.

Also watched Central Intelligence with Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart, made me laugh. But always seems to annoy me how Kevin plays the slapstick. It feels like he's forcing the laughs like in Ride Along. Dwayne was good to watch.

The Jungle Book, the live version and then animated 1967 version. Really enjoyed the live version. acting was good, cgi was excellent, a little darker than the animated. Shame there wasnt more Kaa scenes.

15 hours flight means I caught up on the following:

Our kind of traitor - Ewan macgregor is a teacher who meets a Russian mobster on holiday and gets caught up with MI5, all a bit silly and lacking in action (fair enough) or any tension (not fair enough) 5/10

Hateful Eight - heard a lot of lukewarm comments so was prepared, I live Tarantinos dialogue heavy style but this was too much even for me, trim 30 minutes from the middle and this would be a good (not great) Tarantino film, as it is it is barely worth the time investment 5/10

Keanu - slapstick tale of two friends who try to retrieve their kitten from drug gangs, remember this got excellent reviews and it was, original twists and very funny, and I could understand and enjoy the black jokes (as a 40 something middle clas whitey no mean achievement). 8/10

10 Cloverfield Lane - John Goodman plays 5ohmustang in a post apocalyptic bunker, with a girl who may or may not be a prisoner and an apocalypse that may not have happened, enjoyable nonsense with a poor ending 6/10

What's the thoughts on Bridge of Spies?

Didn't get round to watching it and fancy something to watch over the weekend.
It's not 'action', but a well paced thoughtful piece (based on a very true story). Great performances by both Rylance and Hanks.

I think I gave it 7.5/10 at the time
I think this is the perfect film to sit down and relax to, after a long, hard days work. A little slow moving perhaps, but compelling viewing aided by the excellent acting from all concerning, hanks and Rylance especially.
Cheers guys, will give it a go.
Really liked it, Tylance was superb. Hanks played every Tom Hanks character for the past decade very well too.

Watched the Martian last night.

Initially I was a little concerned that it would be a bit boring but I actually enjoyed it. Well acted with enough drama and comedy moments and the shots of Mars were great.

Solid film, an easy 8/10 for me.

"Based on a true story"

More like "We made everything up, apart from his name and the bit about the Olympics".

The lad from Kinsgsman played Eddie by doing a bad impression which resembled someone with special needs, Hugh Jackman played an entirely ficticious coach with more than a hint of Wolverine.

5/10 - should have tried harder, much harder.
As a matter of interest where did you see this? It isn't released on DVD in Australia until 24th August and the cinema run finished in June.

I keep thinking about watching this but had the same concerns as you, based on your comments I'll give it a go so cheers for that.

Eye in the Sky.

Gets 7.3 on IMDB.

It is SO stupidly, sentimentally, unrealistically, pathetically, wrong on SO many levels.

Then you start to cringe.

Do they REALLY expect us to buy this nonsense as what really happens?

Of course not. It's meant to be tosh.

Yet - the (poorly disguised) morality tale makes it worth a decent 5/10.. you just have to suspend all willing disbelief. Big time. Then it's quite fun, and very well done. Just don't think it through.

Well, the missus won this one and we ended up watching My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2, sigh.

Wet weekend meant i got some films in:

Bastille Day
Solid action thriller. At only 1.5 hours it rattles along at a good pace, a bit like the original Taken movie, all car chases, gunfights, parkour and close-quarter fist-fights.
8/10 - two points deducted for Idris Elba singing/rapping the closing credits song (wtf!?)

Zoolander 2
Never thought the original was as good as everyone said, and this is more of the same, but it was alright and amusing in places. Hundreds of celebrity cameos (inc Lewis Hamilton)
5/10

Warcraft
Not played the game so dont know how faithful this is to that story/world, but i liked the main chap from "Vikings" so gave it a whirl. I guess if you like Lord of the Rings et al you'll like this - big CGI armies fighting each other in vast landscapes etc. The half orc/half human woman was quite hot.
5/10

Invaders from Mars (1986)
The original 1953 film was one of my fave sci-fi films when i was a nipper (in the 80's, not the 50's, i hasten to add) and i didnt realise it was remade in 1986. Anyway, i got 5 minutes into this version and the appalling acting of the child star almost sent me apoplectic, so i had to switch off and delete the file.
(Ive since find out he was the real-life son of the lead actress)
1/10

Sing Street

Sweet coming-of-age drama set in the 80s that actually reminded me of some of the teen dramas made in the 80s like The Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink etc.

8/10

I bought the BR version of the early '90's Western Tombstone and watched it last night. Another fantastic film, it must rank as one of the best of its kind. Val Kilmer as Doc Holiday almost stole the show.

I also bought the BR version of 1990's homage to '50's B-Movies Tremors. Haven't seen it for a while, so will watch that one later.

It is now sometimes cheaper to buy a Blu-Ray film than rent it. I got both for just under £7!
