Just watched Hacksaw Ridge, it's a great film of a great story. What a guy! 9/10.

Also, not watched this week but it's just appeared on sky - The greasy strangler; mad, the poorest of taste, very funny. I loved it. It is truly absurd, definitely a marmite film. 8/10

Watched patriots day today, I wasnt expecting such a powerful film especially the ending but it had me gripped. Mark walberg is so so (as usual) but deffo glad I saw it when I could have quite easily gave it a miss

Umm 7/10 from me.

Trainspotting

I'd never seen this before.

I guess a film about Heroin addicts didn't really seem to have much to offer, but as it was on Film 4 recently and there was all the fuss about Trainspotting 2, I thought I'd give it a go.

About 15 minutes in I said to the wife "I can see why I've never bothered now" and she agreed.

It does pick up a bit as it goes along, but, really, I can't see what all the fuss is about.

3/10.

I agree. I liken it to that other overrated waste of time Withnail and I in that there is nothing so dull as listening to fanbois going on about it, but try and criticise either and it seems one just doesn't get it.

I watched this yesterday too, ridiculously over dramatized, nonetheless I enjoyed it. The combat scenes were brutal. 7.5/10

according to the reviews I've read Hollywood (for once) actually dialled back on what this chap did as they felt it would be too unbelievable

The Good Neighbour - 7/10

Interesting concept that didn't get silly at the end, which is always a bonus. Two teenagers rig their neighbours house with cameras and electronic trickery to fool him into thinking he's being haunted. Things, unsurprisingly, don't go to plan but not for the reasons you might expect. Kept expecting it to have a stupid paranormal twist but was all the better for staying absolutely in reality.

Catfish - 8/10

Must have been living under a rock as although I was aware of the vague premise, I was still tense as hell when he rocked up on her doorstep. Really enjoyed it, felt sorry for her.

The Barkley Marathons - 10/10

Watched this twice in 24 hours and can see me watching it again and again despite not being an ultra-runner myself. Very little actual running, just a simply shot study or a bunch of seemingly 'normal' folk attempting the impossible. Fascinating characters and beyond inspiring (but not in the cliched way you'd think of a 'sport documentary'), I absolutely loved it.

John wick 2

Take brain out and enjoy. Not as good as first tried to be as stylish didn't quite make it but still good.

7.62/10

Hunt for the Wilderpeople

Good film, lots of subtle understated humour. Nice bit of escapism. 8.5/10

Love that film, love Mad Mel's performance, I don't think anyone does the slow burn better.

My Old Lady, lovely film, bit o romance, bit o comedy, bit o drama, a real complete story, not a pastiche.

How does it compare with the original BBC series?

One of my favourite films. That, and The Princess Bride.

Same genus, different species. I do love the old BBC drama, even though it's creaky, Bob Peck, he ranks alongside Mel, CLint, Hugh as Mr INtense.
I feel the film is a tighter story, bit more filmic (obviously) and has a more structured narrative, not saying it's better, but they both have their pluspoints, the drama serial is more vague and realistic, in the film you get real payback. I love how the film cranks it up.

Layer Cake off my "missed it list". An excellent gangster caper with twists right to the end. 9/10.
