Hue and Cry, and Wonderman on in the morning!
Hue and Cry one of the Ealing Comedies that is repeated fewer times than the others, easy to see why, but it still has a certain charm.I can see why Wonderman isn't repeated as much as the big Kaye vehicles. Too many boring and repetitive dance numbers, and Kaye gets tedious and irritating after a while, this isn't Walter Mitty.

Seven Psychopaths
I thought this would be right up my street but when it came out had so many bad reviews I didn't bother.
Just caught although I missed the first 15 minutes or so.
I'll give it 8.2 just for Sam rockwell's character alone.
Enjoyed it.

Wyrmwood - Road of the Dead
Australian Zombie/horror/comedy/gore themed. Obviously low budget but put together with love and attention to detail. The characters are strong the script/plot works and there are non of those why are they doing that questions you get in some movies.
Over the top gore and jump scares and a Bad Taste vibe had me actually laugh out loud in places.
Well worth digging out on Amazon Prime.
8 Ashes out of 10 Shauns.

Just thinking about it again tonight so much good dialogue. I'll have to buy it.This scene and many others had me cracking up. Is suppose in isolation it won't mean much but with the build up and everything
Spoilers and violence He didn't even have a name but he was good.

Inherent Vice - California 1970, Stoner PI investigates a number of interlinked cases while being hounded/helped by the police. Josh Brolin was great as the flat topped 'straight' cop. Good story but lots of stoned mumbling, we had to have the subtitles on, and 1/2 hour too long. 6/10
Legend - Another film about the Krays. Tom Hardy plays both very well, Ronnie had some great one liners. Despite some violence and lots of swearing it all felt a bit light hearted and glamorous compared to the grittier Kemp twins film which, in my opinion, was the better film. 6/10

Went to see Legend last night. It was taken more from the viewpoint of Reggie's wife. It's hard not to compare it to the Krays. The mother who was a major part of that film doesn't feature much. The actual interesting parts of their history are very quickly skipped over and it seemed to spend more time on none events making it a bit boring in places.
The movie wasn't bad but it felt very detatched from reality in terms of the performances. Tom Hardy over acted and did his usual I'll grunt and look confused thing that he did in Mad Max and Lawless. I much preferred the Kray's as a story. An OK 6.5 from me.

Went to the movies for the first time in a while to see Maze Runner The Scorch Trials. I really enjoyed the first one, and this was very enjoyable. Action from start to finish and a good story line - though the middle of this movie was very 'Last of Us' to the point of ripping off, however that is not a bad thing.
I went to the 3D showing, but not sure it is necessary, apart from dust particles it wasn't too 3D imo.

Self/Less
Even though the "science" was too-obviously arranged to fit the story and it was overtly predictable, this was a reasonably enjoyable couple of hours. After Ben Kingsley "exits" in a terminal manner, I was still half expecting him to make another appearance - you don't just write Ben Kingsley out of a story so quickly.

Age of Ultron
I really liked the original Iron Man, Captain America, Avengers and Winter Soldier but in AoU the CGI at the beginning was jarring, and they have ramped-up Cap America's physicality too much. Again, it was jarring.
Other aspects were fun including the exploration of who is worthy enough to heft Thor's hammer (including The Vision some time later), and the greater exposure of Hawkeye's background made them all seem more "human" to me.
I know these are cartoons but the films started off being slightly grounded however the more recent ones (the later Iron Man films, Thor 2 and this one) are moving completely off into the "too cartoonish" for my liking. Yes, I know how that sounds.
Still, I'm sort of invested in these characters now, so they have me as a captive audience. It's the same as why I find it hard to turn away from The Phantom Menace when my son puts it on the TV.

Fantastic Four (the new one)
I just couldn't get on with this from the outset. Took too long to get going, then after they had achieved their powers, the film rushed headlong to the end.
I liked Toby Kebbell and Jamie Bell which was a shame as they were the two actors who ended up behind prosthetics. The others just screamed "bland" at me.
I did like the set-up of the story - that Reed Richards had been working on his invention since childhood - but did they need yet another original story?
I know the previous F4 films couldn't continue because Johnny Storm turned into Captain America but I think I'd got used to those actors and this new lot just didn't feel right. It's like the way they keep remaking Batman, Superman, and Spiderman with different actors in the hot-seat each time. Hollywood needs to move on and start telling stories about what happens to these characters AFTER they have become who they are.

You mean another fantastic four film turned out to be ste? Who would have thought it.
Sounds a shame for Jamie bell he's one decent role away from some proper recognition. He's quite a good actor IMO
Yes, there's such a lack of imagination in Hollywood these days - which is odd because there's so much history with all of these comic characters that they could just plagiarise.Sounds a shame for Jamie bell he's one decent role away from some proper recognition. He's quite a good actor IMO
And yes, Jamie Bell has been "the next thing" for too long now. To be fair, I feel Toby Kebbell has been too, ever since Rock n Rolla.
Watched Desperado again tonight. I love this film. It's silly and has plot holes you could drive a Marvel Helicarrier through but I love the style over substance feel mixed with the Chicano rock soundtrack. And Salma Hayek is just gorgeous in every possible way.

Love the denouement, which lasts for roughly the last third. I watched it twice.
This would be good for a modern remake.
When somebody invents a machine in which you can slap somebody across the Internet I'm going to say he did it, damn if he didn't do it. In Russian and then order extra guards and dogs to patrol the fence and check if your papers are in order in a Trabant. This would be good for a modern remake.
Automata
Another robot film this time using two 'rules' to govern their existence. Banderas plays an insurance agent investigating a claim that one has broken the second rule and modified itself.
Filmed in Bulgaria and Ontario it's quite stylish but the storyline's a bit weak for me. Not too bad but you're not missing much if you never see it IMO.
