Expendables 3
The same but slightly older team recruit some new blood.
Terrible, but in a good way.
6/10

Naked Gun
Keeping with the current comedy re-run theme. Still funny after all these years.
A nice beaver/10

'Prisoners', what a great film.

Saw it last night on Channel 4, at 3 hours (with adverts) it's quite a long film, but well worth it.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1392214/
Recorded, hoping to get to watch it next weekend.

Never heard of it until I was scanning the channels for films to record and then checked out IMDB - 8.1.

Up - Pixar film about a boy and a elderly gentleman trying to reach a far away place to fufill his dead wife's wishes. Really good, better than the first toy story.

47 ronin - samurai trying retake their village. Got panned on release but I thought it was alright.

Outpost:black sun - something about nazi zombies in a underground bunker. Avoid, it's terrible.

Love, Up. It's in my top three Pixar films.

Started watching the Green Hornet, I really liked it, it had gotten to a god fight scene when a power cut ended it....bugger!

The INterns, decent comedy I had never heard of. Another Vaughn/Wilson pairing. biggrin

Watched The Big Short after the reviews on here. One of the best films I have seen for a long time and Bale, once again, proves himself to be a very watchable actor.
agreed, great film
I like Bale's acting but didnt really enjoy the film. Cant quite put my finger on it but i think it had something to do with people making billions from other peoples misery, both ways round, which means i inherently didnt like the story. Although trying to "mostly" show them in a good light, the truth is they were just as greedy as the rest of them. Apart from that i was really impressed with Steve Carell, the acting in general and its ability to show complicated wall street products in a simple way. Best film of the year though? No.

I watched Concussion at the weekend and can see why Will Smith had his nose out of joint for not being nominated but i can also see why he wasnt. I dont think the film had a good enough script to really capture the struggle of foreign MD who is also black struggling against the corporate giants of America. My point being is that the wikipedia article is far more interesting and better written.

The Revenant was beautifully shot but otherwise boring and pointless. The usual suspects here of no character growth so i had a lack of empathy. The only character i liked was Tom Hardy as he really seemed to come across as quite menacing.

Bridge of Spies was very interesting and a good film, but i cant decide if Tom Hanks carried it above its station and, without him, it wouldnt have been as good.

finaly got round to watching Kingsman. had been told by many it was worth a watch and that has often meant the opposite.
But it came through via lovefilm, so I gave it a go.

Have to admit it was pretty good, for a different take on the whole spy/assassin genre.
the exchange between Eggsy and Princess Tilde was great. and who wouldn't take a princess up on an offer like that biggrin

What was Candy's best film?
Cool Runnings, with ease.

Harry Brown, recorded from 5* last night. Bleak film, but very good, in the same kind of way as Clint in Gran Torino (not sure which film came first).
Harry Brown is a great film, really enjoyed that one.

American Ultra

The Social Network guy is a stoner in some back water town and suffers panic attacks. That is until some guys come to kill him and he realises he's the next Bourne Identity.

Half decent film to watch when you just want to zone out and not think too much. Good bit of action, good few laughs, story is OK at best.

5.5/x

Saw "Rango" for the first time at the weekend. Pretty average storyline, but some brilliant one liners and some of the best animation I have seen. Aimed more at adults than children IMHO. 7/10

Watched Prisoners too on Saturday night, great film.
9/10

Got to say I'm loving the channel4 network premiers of a Saturday night so far smile might be due to our first kid arriving early so something to concentrate on that doesn't st or scream but may be more because it isn't a Saturday in front of various reality talent ste!

On an unrelated note, I'm listening to the Jay & Silent Bob Get Old Podcast & really fancy revisiting all of Kevin Smith's back catalogue. Not sure the wife will appreciate it mind....

Wolf Warriors - a Chinese action-hero flick. Think Chuck Norris style films with the bad guys being a bunch of Western mercs, or, as someone else put it - the most patriotic film they'd seen in years. The only difference being this was Chinese patriotism, seems they like their military action flicks just like we do.

All that aside it gains a mark from being not "USA, USA, USA" (but probably looses one for being "PLA, PLA, PLA").

Score? Special fried rice and crispy beef/10

Pandorum. Two guys wake up on a long distance space ship and can't remember anything about how they got there. One of them explores the ship and gradually it all becomes clear.

Didn't expect too much but quite enjoyed this one - 7/10

Steve Jobs

Some really good acting but god was it boring! No real background as to how Apple was formed which is what I would have found interesting and pretty much glossed over the splits and turmoil's.

Turned into a vehicle for emotional schmaltz.

4/10

Sicario.

decent enough premise but muddled and vague.

i came to the conclusion that why was she even there? so a swat squad leader drafted in to legitimise a DOD operation??? and her partner...out of it, complains a bit and then gets included....riiiiight.... and where does her sense of doing he right thing and being a crusader for justice come about? misplaced imho. too many plot holes and missing bits to make it believable....

Watched Point Break (the remake) today at the cinema.

It's had terrible reviews but I quite enjoyed it, some good action scenes and a decent enough cast. The original is still a classic to me though and this wasn't as good.
