The Princess Bride is fantastic, with or without rose-tints. The only thing that stops it being 10/10 is that I can still only decipher about one word in four that Andre the Giant says confused

Christopher Guest never gets a mention, despite being eclectic enough to have been an evil polydactylist in Princess Bride, the man who shot Jesse James and the legendary Spinal Tap guitarist. Now, that's some range yes
It's not his fault he doesn't even work out.

I never even knew that was guest. Mind blown. Yes he was great in that part.

In fact all the cast were great. One of only a handful of 10/10 films for me. It's great.

Whoosh for Halb.
Yeah, you'll have to explain that!

12 Rounds pt 2. A WWE production which probably tells you all you need to know, TBF it wasn't dreadful - just wasn't very good either a (generous) count of 4

Just finished Furious 7...

The tribute was so well done, even a second time around. Just right.

With all the Star Wars talk of late, I'd thought I'd revisit a decent Harrison Ford film and watch the Mosquito Coast. Probably the film he should be best known for.

I came to post about this film. However first I agree the bit at the end was very well done.

Now..... Can you explain the appeal of these movies. I have no idea how I was able to keep watching this. Just a joke it's a kids film yes? Surely nobody over 9 likes this movie?

Like any number of iconic PH films The Princess Bride doesn't survive a re-visit well. True the sword fights and one-liners are good, when they occur, but the rest is quite slow and not particularly entertaining. Through the correct spectacles though... .
It's a film where you either get it or you don't.

If you don't then, meh. Plenty of other of films to watch. Despite it being one of my favourite films I feel no need to evangelise it. If you don't like it then you're missing out. Move along.

Not a film, but a documentary that was on Film 4 last night - Electric Boogaloo: The Wild, Untold Story of Cannon Films, which told the story of Menahem Golan and Yoram Globus and the films they made in the '80's. For anyone who regularly rented out videos out in the '80's, you would have surely watched at least a few. I found it fascinating and kept me watching way past my bedtime..

Deadpool

Usual Marvel superhero fare, but with a bit more self-deprecating awareness than most. Not bad.

7/10

Chasing Amy
A rom-com for men. Great writing from Kevin Smith and great delivery by Ben Affleck (surprise!), there's a canny knack in it that catches just enough of your real life experiences to make it all seem quite believable.

I quite agree. I got it, 30 years ago, and it remained in my memory as an excellent movie. It's still good, but not that good. Sometimes memory can overpower objectivity. As an aside I re-watched Blade Runner the other week and was amazed how well it still plays. Seems to stand the test of time far better than TPB. Don't want to challenge the implacable orthodoxy of the forum too much laugh

I've rewatched Bladerunner, it's OK, a tad clunky now, but old sci-fi can sometimes be like that.
The final cut is probably my fave.

I didn't see why I need a parrot. If you can't explain it, then I don't need one. biggrin
I don't know about any forum authority, but you told me i had rose-tinted specs, and I corrected you. I know what I like and what I don't, what gets in my top ten and what doesn't and for what reasons. wink

"I'm not wrong, everyone else is!" hehe

Joy

Young woman puts life on hold heading into her 20s to take care of divorcing parents until one day she wakes up and thinks enough is enough.

I thought the acting was very good from the whole cast but the plot was poor its delivery erratic. The film starts off very slow as Joy trundles through life in a dead end job spending most of her time taking care of her family. Then we move to a very fast paced second act in which Joy takes control of her life again and starts to build a business and tackles the obstacles that often crop up. The finale however comes quickly and brings a conclusion to the film very suddenly and without much satisfaction. I was left thinking "is that it?", and without much empathy for the journey she had been on.

Could have been much better - 5/10.
