Spy - Melissa McCarthy

I'd heard this was funny and my kids wanted to watch it because it has Miranda in it.

Utter ste. Don't think I laughed once.
I thought it was very, very funny.
I laughed out loud more than a few times

On BBC2HD last night and all the better for it. Can't understand how it isn't better relieved this film, looks ace up on the cinema screen too.
9/10
Spot on it's a superb film. One I can watch over again and again.
Loved that, especially the light jets.
Wish they had gone ahead with Tron 3

Yes, I'd seen that had been canned but fingers crossed these things can come back to life again. On to tonight however.....

Amy
Recorded over Xmas as the wife is/was a massive fan but in all honesty I never rated her that highly, I appreciated her slightly more as time went in but still, one album doesn't make a legend IMHO....
But as this is the film thread and not the music one, what a powerful film! Even if you've never appreciated her music and just thought she was junky scum this will change your opinion I think. Amazing footage for a documentary to get, you (very sadly) feel like you're living that life with her. Incredibly powerful.
10/10

Joy - 4/10

To damn kooky and weird for its own good - tries so hard to build a story of personalities that it actually becomes bewildering.

One of my most watched and favourite films. Im sure you already have but if you haven't seen The Beguiled (Eastwood) its worth a go.

High Plains Drifter.

I was wondering how a 1973 film could be an 18, 10 minutes I got my answer.

not really a western, you could transplant this film into most timelines or places, and it would still work.

good film, 8/10.

Deadpool. Some decent gags and digs about other comic book movies but overall very formulaic and decidedly average. 6/10/ Miss Baccarin saved it from being a 5. She's that powerful in my mind.

Conan the Barbarian, Schwarzenegger version. Watched in about four sittings during the week. Still great. Still never seen Conan the Destroyer.

Horrible bosses - Unbelievable that this got a sequel. I don't think I even smirked once. Jennifer Aniston doesn't wear much, so token point for that, but the fact she got off the lightest after being basically a sex offender seemed a bit wrong.

Escape Plan - groaned a bit when Vinnie Jones appeared, but enjoyed this much more than I expected. Stallone didn't seem too engaged but Schwarzenegger was good, especially his German ranting.

Hmmm, I may try. Is it as Bleak as The Road?

Love the both. As with many sequels though, the Destroyer is more slick, polished, less extreme, perhaps not as epic/deep, a tad watered down? The imagery of it though,is outstanding. ANd it has Pat Roach! AhNold was a wrestling fan (still is). The Destroyer also has another famous wrestler in it...but you'll never recognise him. biggrin
Darn, I'd like to watch Conan the Destroyer now.

THE ASSASIN.

Beautifully shot, glorious scenery, fantastically detailed costumes etc. strange aspect ratio for a 2015 film 4:3?

And THE MOST BORING FILM I CAN EVER REMEMBER SITTING THROUGH!!!!!!

Tron legacy is a fantastic film. Epic soundtrack and I've seen it many many times one of those films I'll always put on despite seeing many times

The Way, Way Back (watched it on Prime). An enjoyable easy going film with Toni Collette, Steve Carell & Sam Rockwell, plus a good supporting cast. It’s by the same people who did The Descendants and Little Miss Sunshine, so if you liked those films you’ll probably like this one too.

Lower budget. European. More gritty. Less emotional heartstring US stuff and more brutal.

Escape PLan. Nice piece of hokum I watched over my laptop. I'd like to see AS and SS work together again. AhNold actually had some decent moments in it...sheeet I wish these two would act more.

84 Charing Cross Road. A sweet little film, with absolutely terrific performances by Bancroft and Hopkins (his return and just before he went mega with Hannibal).
Just reading the bio now made me ponder for a moment...
we live in a different world.

Plus Conan has an epic score. What is best in life. Great film 8.5/10

Escape plan. Didn't think much on first cueing. Watched it again on the weekend enjoyed it much more. Take brain out go for the ride. Nothing new, a bit formulaic but ok.

Don't watch Conan The Destroyer, it's quite awful and the polar opposite of the first in terms of script and production values. The only plus is that Arnold looks fantastic.

Funny you should mention the score, I bought the soundtrack only a few weeks back, and it is fantastic.
