I liked Dredd too, the phrase "it's for kids" is just an attempt to shutdown conversation that the poster doesn't like. Rather than just ignore posts about films that aren't for them and post positive reviews of films they've watched that they like, they seem to get perverse pleasure from trying to belittle other posters.

It doesn't work, it just makes them look stupid.
yes Pretty much.
You don't like something, then just scroll down, it's easy, there's no need to tell people what to like or talk about.

Or alternatively start your own thread. Define what you feel constitutes a movie fit for discussion and let other like minded individuals participate. (Make sure you're wearing a black rollneck and beret)

Okey dokey, well I guess this explains why I look down the cinema listings at all the identikit cgi nonsense and shrug; A ready audience in the form of you guys.

It's commonly accepted that we're at an historical 'low point' as far as cinema is concerned but I guess if it sells us "retards" (wow) will just have to seek out entertainment elsewhere.

Elysium on tonight, not seen it. Not keen on Matt Damon but he doesn't ruin films for me...mostly.

I wouldn't even class a lot of superhero films as being aimed directly at children. They're family films supposed to appeal to all age groups.

People should be able to discuss which ever films they like, maybe you guys need to go and start a 'Serious films I watched this week' thread. I'd leave out the Star Wars and suchlike, all just childish fantasy.

What's next, the old gaming is only for children cliche? Best go and delete my Steam library.

Fair enough, Ash, fair enough.
I did recommend Mud for those that like their slice of teenage growing up Americana southern style

Very true Pesty, but he didn't start off like that, his quote was, 'generally not worthy of discussion or analysis at even a simplistic level,' which as even the simplest person can point out is untrue, that though was just cover-up crap as it's the fact he doesn't like them that made him post such ludicrous bullst. I don't challenge people on what they like, it's pointless, but if someone is ignorantly trying to pass off bias as fact, then that sort of retard behaviour will be called.
Th same kind of retard behaviour as saying take discussion of certain films elsewhere. That sort of fkwittery makes me despair at this place at times. It really makes me lose faith. biggrin

There are plenty. You just have to read people's posts. On the previous page (at least on my browser) someone recommended whiplash. My favourite film of last year. No spandex in sight...

So would you honestly say you're satisfied with the quality of recommendations on this thread? If so, I think you set the bar pretty low.
I happen to believe everyone is entitled to an opinion even if it's different to mine. To each his own as they say.

I guess in the 50's/60's it was Westerns, in the 70's it was disaster movies, in the 80's it was slasher 'horror or comedy - these days it's superheros. It's fun, easily accessible and not pretentious win/win/win

The Western comparison struck me too. They made so many, top quality, low quality. SOme lasted, most didn't, some are amongst the greatest films. Then they just died a death. Over-saturation?

There certainly doesn't seem to be as many 'adult' movies any longer. The good news is that there are now so many top quality adult series' on the TV now, with many seemingly eclipsing both production value and scripts/acting that the 40 billion Dollar movies people pay £10 to see!

Noooo it's entirely childish fantasy based escape from reality plotless superficial cgi nonsense! If you lot had never read a comic book as a kid you wouldn't watch the superhero rubbish. All they are is nostalgia realised. And they're all the same. Identical. Completely Identical. I mean how many times can one person watch exactly the same movie?? The mind boggles.

Quite enjoyed Iron Man though.

In the Heart of the Sea

Film about the story that inspired Moby Dick. Good looking film that I think would have been a good one to watch in the cinema with all the action at sea.

6.5/10

Rollerball

Looking pretty dated and I was worried it was going to be pants as I hadn't seen it for a long time. Once my brain adjusted to the looks it was still an enjoyable film, a bit weak in places but I liked the style of it.

6/10

Deadpool

One of those pesky marvel childrens films wink... but this time aimed at adults...maybe. Not bad and raised a few chuckles but tbh I've much preferred some of their normal output, if that's ok with everyone.

5.5/10

Civil war.

Very shaky start. Special effects were annoying me. Anyway started enjoying it about half way through, I can see why they have had to go this route I think. A little more depth and a little darker in places.

Good flick

The thread is epic, its been great for me to see films others have watched and then watched them myself but its been nearly 140 pages of greatness then you and Doubletampon get into some PMT and start to whine. Look, we are all different, we all like different things and the thread titiel is "Films I watched this week" not "Filmnoir I watched this week" or "films to end your life watching this week", so if you and the other numbskull cant get around the fact that some of us like "childish, unchallenging" films then start your own thread with your own rules. You both are sounding like the sort of whiny type that moves next to Alton Towers then complains about the noise of people having fun, whilst thinking its acceptable to play Bach on the old radio at 400dB at 1am because "culture".

Here, just watched Star Trek In to Darkness in preparation for the upcoming one which I am thoroughly looking forward to.

In to Darkness is a masterpiece of visual effect, its a lovely story too and well acted. Its brilliant, it even is in English which makes it much more enjoyable. Nice eye candy, nice film to watch again, a solid 8/10.

Now if that's not good enough may I suggest you go watch Space Odyssey and wax lyrical at what a marvel that film is whilst I will quietly think to myself "what a steaming turd that film is" but without actually coming across as a pious opinionated arse trying to suggest anything that is "serious or challenging" isn't worthy of an entry into the "films I watched this week" general bounds of conversation.

They all are though. It's apparent from this thread the actual quality of the superhero movie doesn't matter as long as characters have superpowers which they use. You either like superhero movies or you don't: Factors normally used to qualify a movie such as direction, screenplay, atmosphere and storyline are pretty much irrelevant.
