They all are though. It's apparent from this thread the actual quality of the superhero movie doesn't matter as long as characters have superpowers which they use. You either like superhero movies or you don't: Factors normally used to qualify a movie such as direction, screenplay, atmosphere and storyline are pretty much irrelevant.
No they aren't. It's quite apparent that a couple of posters hate superhero movies and don't read posts. These films vary like any other genre. Direction, screenplay, atmosphere, and storyline are precisely what made Civil War a good film and Batman vs Mr Goody Two Shoes a st one.

Burying the Ex.
Anton Yelchin's (so it's almost Odd Thomas 2 - I really like OT) missus dies on the way to meet him so he can dump her. Comes back as a zombie. Kinda funny and silly. Also Alexandra Daddario is the somehow single chick he meets and wants to hook up with. Dayam. I'm not sure how she stands up straight.

Good fun, don't take it seriously.

Whilst it would appear that some people do not like superhero film, period, your assertion that those of us that do don't care about quality, be that plot, character, script etc., is plainly just your bias overriding your cognitive ability.

I think that a better use of your time would be served in company of someone who can help you deal with your obvious anger towards those of us who have a much broader appreciation of the entertainment medium that is film.

Unbelievably some of us enjoy a good superhero movie as much as a thought provoking classic. Who'd have thought smile

Breach 7/10 on netflix

A true story spy thriller, I like true stories so maybe more generous than others would be with the score, but still worth a watch.

Locke - was on Ch4 film channel, recorded and just gone round to watching it. A film about one man's motorway journey while he speaks to work colleagues and family on the phone. Doesn't sound great, but trust me it's a pretty good film.

8/10

These films absolutely do not 'vary like any other genre'. What a ridiculous statement. I'm curious - Do you still play with Action Man and make him fly?

Dismissing an entire genre of film as being for children is a bit like dismissing an entire genre of music as being for a particular skin colour. Doesn't really make sense.

That said, I got bored of superhero films after the first Avengers one. They all seem to be incomprehensible and overlong adverts for the next one.

10 Cloverfield Lane; wanted to like it because of John Goodman and Mary Elizabeth Winstead ?who are both very good) but the story kinda goes no where and is just a bit lacking. Like they've taken a much longer film, chopped in into thirds and stretched out the first act into a feature-length film.

Plainly.

Anger? Bewilderment and sometimes fascination at the strange behaviour of adults maybe.

Well, yes, if you read my post I said the Iron Man films weren't too bad. Even though the plot fashion in the way our hero finds powers, gets an enemy, loses powers, regains powers just in time to defeat enemy/alter ego etc in big cgi punch up - was exactly the same as all the Spidey, Superman, Batman etc etc movies. Nowt wrong with the odd fantasy movie, but when people refuse to accept it as the trivial rubbish it is then one wonders how far the delusion will go.

Get a fking grip.

Loads and I mean metric st tons of films of every genre copy the same tried and tested or tired if you want to look at it that way plots and storylines, not sure why superhero films are getting singled out on that one.

If films were only allowed to be completely factual and based on what is actually scientifically possible we'd have to wipe most of them out, or maybe it's documentaries you should be watching?

You do realise films are supposed to be and are a great form of escapism? To me one of the marks of a good sci-fi film is that it captures your imagination and takes you away to another world where the impossible can happen. To label any kind of fantasy movie as trivial rubbish is doing them a great disservice IMO.

Says it all really. You watch men flying around in costumes, get emotional at the slightest criticism and you tell me to get a grip? laugh

I guess in the 50's/60's it was Westerns, in the 70's it was disaster movies, in the 80's it was slasher 'horror or comedy - these days it's superheros. It's fun, easily accessible and not pretentious win/win/win
Noooo it's entirely childish fantasy based escape from reality plotless superficial cgi nonsense! If you lot had never read a comic book as a kid you wouldn't watch the superhero rubbish. All they are is nostalgia realised. And they're all the same. Identical. Completely Identical. I mean how many times can one person watch exactly the same movie?? The mind boggles.

Quite enjoyed Iron Man though.
errrm wrong... can't speak for everyone, obviously, but I never read comics as a kid (neither the stty UK ones nor the US ones). I had a (very) brief flirtation with 'Commando' etc in my early teens but my comic reading only started about 15/20 years ago

No singling out that one line of my post to reply to 'says it all'

All you've been trying to do is belittle and mock a genre and the people who enjoy it while conveniently ignoring or responding to the valid points people have made regarding it.

The Revenant, a very generous 5/10, and it's only that high due to the amazing cinematography.

Now I can suspend belief to watch a scifi but there were parts of this film that were just completely unbelievable.

And it was easily an hour too long.

Ok I'll be less subtle. Look at the guys posting history. Basically he would start an argument with himself if no one else was around. You are just giving him what he wants.
