Turbo Kid.

Set in a post apocalyptic 1997 where everyone uses BMXs for transportation. micro budget with some very lo fi practical effects. (Should please the anti CGI brigade). It notably stars Michael Ironside playing Dennis Hopper from Waterworld. One for lovers of Cannon films efforts from the late 80's, very much a nostalgia trip but enjoyable never the less.

6.5/10

Wow, this thread has gone downhill fast....

Last night me and the wife watched Southpaw, being a boxing fan the boxing scenes were not great but enjoyed the film nonetheless. 7/10

The Revenant, a very generous 5/10, and it's only that high due to the amazing cinematography.

Now I can suspend belief to watch a scifi but there were parts of this film that were just completely unbelievable.

And it was easily an hour too long.
Years ago I remember trying to watch "There will be blood", if I remember rightly it swept the board at the Oscars when it came out. Awful film, so tedious and way too long. I never made it to the end (I blame this partially on the smartphones etc which have reduced my attention span to a New York Second).

Another tedious film with the same actor was the one about Abraham Lincoln. Very worthy but dull as ditchwater.

I guess in the 50's/60's it was Westerns, in the 70's it was disaster movies, in the 80's it was slasher 'horror or comedy - these days it's superheros. It's fun, easily accessible and not pretentious win/win/win
Noooo it's entirely childish fantasy based escape from reality plotless superficial cgi nonsense! If you lot had never read a comic book as a kid you wouldn't watch the superhero rubbish. All they are is nostalgia realised. And they're all the same. Identical. Completely Identical. I mean how many times can one person watch exactly the same movie?? The mind boggles.

Quite enjoyed Iron Man though.
errrm wrong... can't speak for everyone, obviously, but I never read comics as a kid (neither the stty UK ones nor the US ones). I had a (very) brief flirtation with 'Commando' etc in my early teens but my comic reading only started about 15/20 years ago
We watch Marvel films as a family, and I can definately say my wife and my daughter have never read a comic book between them. My wife is the main fan and has to see them on the release weekend.

Possibly the worse and the best film I have ever seen. I can't make my mind up if it was really that bad.

"They Live" was excellent. Wonderfully dark and yet disturbingly plausible in many ways.

On Netflix

Special Correspondents. Funnier than I thought. 7.5/10 ... and actually quite a clever plot. Nice poke at the USA too.

Traitor. Not sure how I missed it first time out. Thriller - bit of a lame end, but well worth a look. 7/10

Last night was watching Where Eagles Dare.....still a wonderful action film. Richard Burton talks and Clint Eastwood shoots Nazi's. Clint earner $800,000 for the film, Richard Burton $ 1, 200,000. Broadsword calling Danny Boy!!

Mad Max: Fury Road
As a film it was pretty much as I expected but way more visually spectacular.

Considering the running time, lack of dialogue, basic plot and the overall relentlessness of action, it didn't get boring at all for me. I can understand why some wouldn't like it but I really enjoyed it.

It's almost an art film and I think it'll stick around to become a cult classic.

I liked it as a visual tour de force but as a Mad Max film I found Max weak, very weak, in fact Charlize was more the star and power in the film which was a bit of a disappointment, especially as he is penned to become the next Bond.

Totally agree, it was definitely Theron's film and Max was little more than a sidekick at best. I wonder whether that was intended or was just something that evolved during production.

Maybe its trying to follow the remake of Ghostbusters?

Still a good film and I will get it to watch once I get through this pile of films I've recently bought, including for Ash and Doublesix "Schindlers List, The imagination game, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and Captain America"

Speaking of which, just watched Captain America The Winter Soldier, we both loved it. Great pace, action, story, some elements we guess what was going to happen only for something else to. Lovely action film with a nice set up for the Stark vs America story. 8/10

Apparently he's signed up for more Mad Max movies.

If they can keep the action as epic as Fury Road but give us some more Max character development there's a lot of things to look forward to there.

They do need to keep canon with the old movies, though, more satisfying that way...
