I watched "Requiem for a Dream" last night not thinking I'd seen it.... as it started I realised it was one of the most memorable opening scenes of a film.... watched it through and totally enjoyed it..... well worth revisiting if you've seen it and a must watch if you haven't.

I started watching "Bram Stoker's Dracula" (1992) this morning. Just didn't get on with it and had to turn it off. Maybe I'm not in the right mood.

Time has not been kind - it's really quite terrible

I also tried watching MacGruber as it is currently available on Amazon Prime. I didn't last very long on that one either.

I'm either not in the mood for films today, or else I am picking bad ones. smile

Watched this the other night. Found it strange that for most of the killings or violence the camera cut away so you'd hear a gunshot but not the death. But then showed in its entirety a particularly gruesome scene in full?

Now THAT was a weird ass film.
Small budget 19th Century western where the Sheriff (Kurt Russell) and his posse seek to rescue a fair maiden from some descendants of the "The Hills Have Eyes".... nearly an hour an half of borderline tedium that was some how compelling character building stuff, followed by some horror/gore and a conclusion of sorts...
Kept my attention and made me feel ill.
Decent tension too.

ermm...yeah a 7.
Same as IMDB...

Saw Eddie the Eagle over the weekend. Unashamedly feel good movie. Acting only passable, but I enjoyed it. 7/10.

X men apocalypse.

Low expectations based on what others have said, but I really enjoyed it. I thought it was better than the last one to be honest in fact I would rank it as the second best X men film.
When sites like den of geek are giving this a two star review it makes you wonder if there is something to the Disney conspiracy theory.

8/10

Spooks the greater good.

Trying too hard to be clever. You know nothing Jon snow.

4/10

Pacific rim

Giant monsters. Giant robots. What's not to like.

Bridge Of Spies

Enjoyed it, nice well paced medium burner, showing you don't needs guns and SFX to create tension and excitement.

9/10

Triple 9
So the previous reviewer here, sent it down because of a lack of character development.
...And yes there are many characters, too many to delve into, and the central one are only looked at superficially...
And then the back story, the plot...took a while for me to fathom how it was linked, or just what was going on...
BUT
If you liked Heat, Training Day, The Departed, then you're going to love this. (or at least you should). Great cast, great quality of direction and production. Immersive, detailed, creepy, twisty..tactical SWAT, heist, bullet flyin' entertainment.

And Casey Affleck is pretty good in it smile

I'm going 8.2.

Zodiac was on TV the other day, pretty good film but a bit of a frustrating ending, though I guess being based on a true story there's not much can be done about that.

Daddy's Home
Watchable, with a few laughs along the way, but nothing special.

They Live
Seen it mentioned on here a few times, and my buddy couldnt believe i hadnt seen it being i call myself a scifi/action movie fan. Watched it yesterday, knowing it was about aliens invisible to everyone until you wear some special sunglasses, and expecting just a cheese-fest - but was pleasantly surprised at times. The initial moment where he puts them on and the film turns to luxurious black & white and we seen the skeletal face of the alien buying a magazine was genuinely quite impactful. Combined with all the subliminal messages plastered on noticeboards everywhere (not to mention on money itself) it still has a relevant message today.
Of course, its not all good - at times its painfully slow. I couldnt tell if "Rowdy" Roddy Piper's character deliberately meant to just stare vaguely at people when they said something to him, or if he just couldnt act, or it was just awful editing (2 & 3 at a guess). The alley-way fight scene goes on for about 20 minutes and is clearly just a way to shoehorn in some wrestling moves to appease Pipers fanbase, complete with picking up random bits of scenery to hit the other guy with.
May get some flak for this, but after hundred of pointless remakes of classic films, is this one that really would be worthwhile?

Ant Man - 7/10.

I'm not a comic book movie fan, but my son is and this one sounded fairly promising.

Throwaway, forgettable fair on the whole, but good fun, as with most of these films, for me, better for not taking itself that seriously.

Spotlight.

All the President's men it aint! Maybe I was expecting too much.

No idea why it was rated so highly. It's a fine flick, and right on and all that, but not exactly full of tension.

I would have given it a full mark more if Thomas Newman had composed the music, but they chose the wrong bloke - by a Gandalf mile.

The music got right up my nose.

6.5/10

don't even recall the music! Not a good thing but you probably notice much more than a regular cinema goer

Not noticing is a good thing. I spend my life writing music that won't be noticed. My music was used on the Channel 4 Documentary about the battle of Jutland on Saturday, and even my wife missed my music. Good job. - But if you watch Shawshank, or Green Mile, you'll be in tears not noticing the music!! It's a dark art that makes films so much better.
