The general consensus within the whole INDUSTRY was that an R rated hero film wouldn't work and would flop badly. They seemed to be of the impression that parents only went because they took their kids. When the whole internet went nuts for the test footage Fox green lit the movie but with a relatively small budget. I'd heard $65 million being touted which is small for a hero film. Very small.

It was 50, and the people in charge, not Fox fkwits wanna keep the budget small, that'll be interesting.

I rented a film on Amazon called 'The Haunting of Black Wood'

What a misleading title! After watching and both me and my wife enjoying it, I was convinced that wasn't the original title, as it was not a horror, nor were there any hauntings. Sure enough, a quick look on IMDB, the original title is 'Enter Nowhere', which is a more apt title.

It is like a feature length Twilight Zone episode, but a very good one, and I am sure that you like sci-fi that deals with time and what ifs, you would find this quite an enjoyable way to spend 90 minutes.

It was $65mil everywhere I've read but they had $7mil cut after filming started which made it $58.

It took over $700mil so I guess it did OK. I imagine Fox are not just looking at box office figures and are also taking into account merchandising which is why they don't want too many adult superhero films. This little market is worth 10's of billions to them which it wouldn't be if only aimed at adults.

I thought I had read 52 mill on wiki, but it was 58.
Deadpool is the reason that X-Men has now bumped, it's also taken more that the last X-man film. SO it did far better than OK< it smashed it.

Merchandising is probably a sticky area, but Marvel would still benefit from it I should guess.

Whatver Fox get out of merchandise I doubt would take any real hit based on any higher rated film.

Got it on Forbes, Marvel gets 5% from the joint property.

Money Monster. Good film, liked it a lot. Made me wish someone held Adrian Chiles at gunpoint on live TV back in the Working Lunch days.

Warcraft. Better than expected, and very good for a 'video game film'. The dwarves need to be in the next one more. Odd seeing Dominic Cooper and Ruth Negga together in this after watching ep1 of Preacher last week.

TMNT 2. Bad. Some action bits lifted straight from Transformers films, continuity issue in the first main scene with Megan Fox and science guy at what point of dumping the jacket/wig/glasses and putting on the skirt over her trousers did the trousers come off and high heel boots go on?. Asking this because I'm not sure, and I just found out that the warthog is a character from TMNT cartoons... Which came first, Bebop the Warthog in Turtles, or the warthog police in Duke Nukem? Because similar.

Watched When Harry Met Sally for the first time this weekend, mainly as we are off to NYC and plan to visit Katz' Deli.

Begrudgingly accepted on this basis as thought it would be a wifey film (and had discounted it previously for this reason also) but really enjoyed it and thought it had some real laugh out loud moments, dry comedy and subtle one liners.

Can anyone else reccomend any films that showcase NYC, DC or Toronto?

Katz's Deli - wife and I went there on our honeymoon a couple of months back. it is amazing. But it is not cheap. And there was a bit of a queue - you either get table service and sit in one area, or you can queue up and find your own seats. They then make you pay at the end when you leave - do not lose your ticket or you'll have to pay $50 each to get out!

I watched 10 Cloverfield Lane last night, it was a good watch and kept the suspense up throughout, Goodman was great.

Last night i gave it a 7.5/10 but that has slipped to a 6.5/10 after thinking about it.

Just come back from seeing The Nice Guys.

Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe.

All I knew was it was a comedy and I had seen someone mention it was a) bloody hilarious and b) they were detectives of some sort.

Both the wife and I loved it. Really really funny, crazy story that didn't go where I was expecting to go.

Recommended.
Have to agree - so much better than I thought it would be. Great script, funny and enjoyable.

Recommended.
