Looking forward to watching this. As a gamer I would be reaching for a controller most of the time.

I didn't like it, reminded of those games that you used to get at amusement parks.

Katz's Deli - wife and I went there on our honeymoon a couple of months back. it is amazing. But it is not cheap. And there was a bit of a queue - you either get table service and sit in one area, or you can queue up and find your own seats. They then make you pay at the end when you leave - do not lose your ticket or you'll have to pay $50 each to get out!
Good advice, many thanks. I'm told of a $20 pastrami sandwich, challenge accepted smile

caught 2 on a flight this week:

hail caesar.

i can see why some on here found it confusing, it really does seem like a sketch show with a bare narrative holding it all together. perhaps the most 'coen brothers' coen brothers film i've seen, full of nods and winks to the film industry and rammed full of character actors and cameos plus the usual central character's struggle with his own redemption.

acting wise clooney was a bum steer imo although brolin did a great job of holding everything together. alden ehrenrich was the standout and veronica osorio is the latest object of my affection. just wish someone, anyone, but tilda swinton took that role. i just don't like her.

as a film, i would give it 6/10. as a series of theatrical sketches and set pieces i would say a 10. looked amazing and was perfectly paced, just lacked any real dramatic tension in the main [silly] soviet plot so the whole thing lacked gravitas and pay off.

the big short

wow, just wow. hard to watch, especially as they get nearer to december 2006 when i bought my first house with a 100% mortgage.....

takes a very sore and complicated subject and delivers it bit sized and cooked to perfection. carrell and gosling are especially decent in their roles. the latter's becoming a bit of a surprise for me of late and one to watch in the near future.

i will definitely be buying the book for my return flight. solid 9/10 from me

Its a good sandwich, I managed all of mine, plus the half of my wife's she couldn't manage. We didn't need to eat for the rest of the day.

IF you ever saw Man vs Food, he went in there, and ate two of the these sandwiches for lunch, which was nice.

Back on topic, we also watched X Men Apocalypse recently, and whilst it isn't as good as DOFP it was certainly most entertaining. You just have to accept that with any film there are going to be some plot holes that noone thinks to tie up in the movie.

I finally watched The Big Short last night (annoyingly missed it at the cinema) and agree w/ comments - thought it was superb, plus bonus Margot Robbie appearance.

Warcraft - this could have been a steaming pile of orc dung, like the D&D films were (what a balls-up of an opportunity that was), but in the end turned out the be a totally entertaining couple of hours a couple of obvious plot twists and a couple not so obvious. I'll state at this point I've never played WoW and so am not 'invested' in it which helped maybe?

Anywho score? A warband out of the horde thumbup

Really wanted to enjoy this film after it had a good review from Andrew Neil, and because I liked Margin Call.

However, it really wasn't a great film IMO.

Thought Christian Bale over acted his role and I found many of the characters lacked depth. The key scenes which tried to convey the scale and the jeopardy fell mostly flat for me.

Odd Thomas - Quirky comedy, horror, B-movie based on the books of Dean R. Koontz starring Anton Yelchin as 'Odd' a chef who can see dead people and see's it as his duty to help them rest. Very surprised how much I enjoyed it. Light Spoiler....

I think it's very rare for a movie these days to actually have a scene that pulls so hard at the heart strings without feeling contrived and forced, this one has that moment and it is played to perfection by all concerned. Yelchin sell's it so well you feel his pain and sadness, genuinely heart wrenching. Will admit it got very, very dusty as not having read the book I had no clue what was going to happen and it was a real gut punch cry

It's good, not un-missable great, but well worth a watch IMHO 7/10 (10/10 for 'that' scene all on it's own)
I like the books and bloody love the film. Considering the reduction on plot and narration that usually happens when books get made into films I thought this held up well and Yelchin was the perfect choice for the role, as well as Dafoe for the Chief. An underrated film. See it!
Thanks for this recommendation - this is now on my "fav films ever" list. Absolutely loved it. Yelchin was brilliant in Star Trek and now here.

10/10 from me. Mrs W liked it too.

Gods of Egypt one or 2 nice touches and a couple of good special effects do not a good movie make, nor do they outnumber the many more poor touches and sack load of bad special effects. As an aside a film set in Egypt with a predominantly white cast?

It is a real shame Hollywood always seem to get these types of films so horribly wrong. With the latest CGI technology, they could take us back to these times and spin a real good story about what life was like 2/3/4 thousand years ago. But no, they always make them barely unwatchable with a weak script/comedy and the usual inclusion of silly monsters and impossible stunts. Only 2 (pre-Roman) films stand out in the past decade or so, and they were not great by any measure, but the visuals help make up for it, Troy and Alexander.

Oh, we watched Deadpool over the weekend, was OK, taking the piss out of the ever more bloated franchise was good.

Gods of Egypt looked a load of old tosh from the advert. COmpanies are looking for non-comic based bit spectacle films (no profit share), but are failing to understand what makes comic book films so popular.

What 'race' (in as much as race is an artificial social construct) is an old and intriguing question.

The Nice Guys

Basically The Last Boy Scout set in the 70's. Which isn't even remotely surprising as they are both written by Shane Black.

From the trailers I was expecting slightly more. Its funny, the chemistry between the two leads is terrific and the all the set work, props and clothes are unbelievably accurate. But to call the plot paper thin is an understatement and I thought the ending was just ridiculous. Shame because I thought it would be funny enough to really enjoy at the cinema but I could have just waited to have a laugh on the couch at home. The dream sequence is a hoot though. smile

A disappointing 6/10.

How the heck they stretched one South Park episode out so thin we'll never know.

When We Were Kings

Had it sat in the coffee table since Ali passed away last week and got the chance to watch it again last night. Amazing film that was (iirc) abandoned after the rumble in the jungle and was only rediscovered in the late 1990s and completed. Great insight into black American society as well as Ali's life-and a great boxing match too smile
