The Exorcist 1973.

The weird thing about this is that, I was absolutely certain I'd seen it before, not once but at least a few times - but I remembered almost none of it apart from the exorcism scene which is only a few minutes long at the end of the it – the version I remember pretty much starts with the old Priest arriving in the fog at the house. Perhaps I saw one of the sequels.

Anyway, it’s very ‘of its time’ - you’d never mistake it for a modern film, the story is less spoon fed and jumps forward seemingly weeks or months at a time without “6 months later” written across the screen which was confusing, it’s disturbing rather than scary I think but I really enjoyed it. The story is far more involved than I thought, but I wasn’t really scared watching it.

Just watched the Netflix exclusive "Due Over", a second exclusive I've watched with Adam Sandler.

What a brilliantly silly film with a nice story plot, laughed quite a lot all the way through. Definitely one to watch if you want a switch off and laugh film.
Just to add balance for anyone thinking of giving this a go.

It's called 'The Do-Over', and whilst not as bad as the utterly dreadful Sandler exclusive 'The Ridiculous 6' it's still painfully st. Unless you think Sandler's recent output (such as Jack and Jill...) is funny I'd recommend giving it a wide berth.
thanks for the balance, I had assumed PH XKR was on serious medication, hinted at by not knowing the name of the film he was reviewing, confirmed by liking anything that talent-free-zone Sandler is ruining
I posted from my phone, do over, due over, either way great film. Just for balance, the above two probably have a copy of 2001:Space Odyssey wrapped in protective film and consider it a 11/10 film!

Look, Do-over was a fun slapstick type humour film, you either like Sandler or you don't, I do but then I don't like 2001 (biggest PoS I've watched).
Adam Sandler fan vs 2001 a space odyssey fan, well who's judgment do I trust!?
One celebrated as one of the greatest most influential of all time and the sci fi flick.. Hoho
Up until I watched 2001 the other week I'd have agreed but 2001 is utterly st, I mean stinky ste.
The influence of 2001 on subsequent filmmakers is considerable. Steven Spielberg, George Lucas and others, including many special effects technicians, discuss the impact the film has had on them in a featurette titled Standing on the Shoulders of Kubrick: The Legacy of 2001, included in the 2007 DVD release of the film. Spielberg calls it his film generation's "big bang", while Lucas says it was "hugely inspirational", labeling Kubrick as "the filmmaker's filmmaker". Sydney Pollack refers to it as "groundbreaking", and William Friedkin states 2001 is "the grandfather of all such films". At the 2007 Venice film festival, director Ridley Scott stated he believed 2001 was the unbeatable film that in a sense killed the science fiction genre.[162] Similarly, film critic Michel Ciment in his essay "Odyssey of Stanley Kubrick" stated, "Kubrick has conceived a film which in one stroke has made the whole science fiction cinema obsolete."

Yeah, but they never watched Little Nicky or Billy Madison..

ste. 2/10 for literally a couple of laughs, but I found myself so bored.

My take on 'The Revanant'

Stunningly shot (I mean about as good as I've seen), great and very original score, simple story. I think it is a work of astonishing quality.

Did I enjoy it? hmmmm. I appreciated how good it was. Enjoy is not a word I'd use. Needs cinema or big TV and surround sound to do justice.

Can't find a marks out of 10.

Gotta' see it if you like cinematography though.

Agree.

Reminded me of "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford" for similar reasons. Both beautifully crafted films.

Just watched Deadpool.

Well, that was different. Hadn't seen any reviews before and was expecting another variation on the Superhero movie and it certainly wasn't that.

Watched Spy this weekend, wasn't expecting much tbh, but it's a great film.

Jason statham playing a parody of his usual characters, & the lovely Rose Byrne too.
Very funny & well worth a watch.

Watched "13 Days" for the first time last night.

Great film, save for Costner's hamfisted accent. Bobby Kennedy was incredibly well casted as was JFK.

Managed to mantain tension toward the end, despite the fact that we all know how it ended!

Reccomended.

Me and the missus watched Brothers Grimsby on Sunday. Quite possibly one of the funniest things I have ever seen. Takes low brow and decides thats too serious.

Followed that with Cloverfield Lane. Which was definitely not what I expected at all - absolutley brilliant. Ending was a bit of a surprise.

Looking forward to Grimsby and also to Cloverfield Lane. Cloverfield was a let down, a Blair Witch with aliens but looking forward to some Fritzl action.

I like 13 Days, was Costner's accent that bad?

I do like the actors for the Kennedys, the main one especially, they were cast very well.

sorry, wasn't having a pop at you directly, AS just has a gag reflex on me.

For context I found 2001 to be a film for critics and other film makers to enjoy, and Despicable Me is one of my top 10 of last 5 years so hardly a movie snob!

Perhaps a bit harsh, but I cringe at most of the attempts he makes - seems to be an actor that tries too hard and I'm programmed to dislike it.

Robin Hood is another case in point.

Watched Kingsman last night, wasn't expecting a lot from some of the reviews but overall not bad, kind of reminiscent of the original Man from UNCLE, with the recruiting bit from Men in Black thrown in. A reasonable evening's entertainment, 7/10

I thought it was excellent. Fast paced, tongue in cheek and very funny.

I *so* wanted to like Dad's Army (2016). The casting choices seemed pretty decent on the whole but the story was flat. I know the original series and the original film had, by today's standards, "small" stories but the original actors seemed to carry it off. I hoped for more with this new film but it never really got going, and the cast never really seemed to gel in the way that the originals did.

It's a real shame but I have to give it no more than 7/24.5 (are we still awarding stupid scores?).
