It was decent enough, yeah. Probably my least favourite of those listed but watchable enough!

Smiler.

Probably mentioned a while back but watched The Program last night. Fascinating expose of the Lance Armstrong debacle.

Of note, Chris O'Dowd played his part well.

Independence day 2- 2/10. Total yawn fest with no charm, tension, humour or acting. Worse than transformers 2.

Riddick film I hadn't seen before. Must have been the sequel to the sequel of Pitch Black. Standard Riddick movie with lots of monsters and guys who think they're badasses but aren't and end up cowering before Vin Diesel's manliness. I don't really like Vin Diesel's films, but I really liked him in Pitch Black for some reason. Good monsters, a few demonstrations of badassery, nothing to tire my braincells.

Solid 7/10

Predator 2. I know a lot of people hate this film. I think it's great. Danny Glover is a really odd pick after Ahnold and I'm always a little incredulous when his cop mate is like "you couldn't carry him up there!" as though he's some kind of ubermensch. But I think it delivers on all the best 80's action tropes. It was also the film that made the Predators cool and showed them to be more than just a "monster". I was getting a little drunk towards the end, but couldn't help but wonder why they can't make a decent predator film anymore when the formula seems so simple and awesome.

9/10

The Revenant: Got a bit bored watching it actually. Visually impressive (watched it on a large scale cinema system) and atmospheric music but never really had much interest in the characters themselves. All a bit "Meh" for me and not something I am likely to look at again.

Ice Age 5: let's milk the franchise for every last penny.

OH wanted to go and see some chick flick thing so me and the boy went to this because it was on at the same time.

He asked if it was nearly finished 30 minutes in.

Great film to take your kids to....if you hate your kids.

0/10.

Tried High Rise last night (hiddlestone/miller).

Couldn't get into it so turned it off and watched No Escape with Owen Wilson. Was OK, nothing great, Brosnan felt under used.

The Angel's Share

A pretty typical Ken Loach comedy/drama set again up in Scotland about a group of young offenders who get taken under the wing of their community service leader and discover the world of whiskey. Turns out a rare barrel is coming up for auction and it might just give the group the chance to escape the poverty they find themselves in.

I taped it from Film4 so no doubt it'll be repeated on there again but if you enjoyed Sweet Sixteen or Raining Stones it's of a similar ilk.

8/10

Yup, whilst the new one is good, the old one is much better!

Under-used! Brosnan was over-used. Every time he turned up, chewing the scenery, it was jarring.

I too enjoyed Babadook. Simple yet effective. Have you seen It Follows? I recently watched it and i have to say it was pretty damn creepy, especially the part in the beginning where the boy has the girl tied up and he wheels her to the edge and we get our first glimpse of "It"... had me pretty freaked out to be honest.

I may be in the minority, but for me, It Follows is one of the best horror's I have seen in a long time. Very creepy, plus the soundtrack is sublime and fits in with the film's atmosphere perfectly.

Watched a few decent flicks this past week which i definitely recommend;

Birthday Girl with Nicole Kidman (she is incredibly hot). She plays a Russian mail order bride who is received by a British chap who is sort of a lonely shut-in type. Nice little twist in the fim that i did not see coming.

Black Sea with Jude Law. Came out in late part of 2015 and i never once saw it advertised anywhere, certainly was not in any theaters here in the U.S. but thats a good thing because as I have come to realize the best films are ones that rarely if ever get shown on the "big screen". Another fantastic film that genuinely had me feeling on edge at times. Jude plays a man who aids in the recovery and salvage of submarines who is divorced and just made redundant when he is called upon to take a high risk search and obtain mission in the crimerian sea lay an old nazi sub containing 3 billion dollars worth of gold bars which lay planted on the sea floor. He assembles a team of both Russian and English men and the fun begins. Lots of nice little twists in this film as well.

For this PH lot i'd first recommend seeing Black Sea. You will not regret it.

I though it was brilliant, the whole thing has that surreal, nightmarish feel to it where no one seems truly safe. The concept of something slowly and relentlessly following you is pretty damn creepy as well.

Another good one I've just watched is Crimson Peak. The cinematography and use of colour is superb, definitely worth watching on Blu Ray

I rented Crimson Peak on Amazon Video. As soon as it finished, I ordered it on Blu ray! Very sumptuous to look at.
