Everybody Wants Some

Quite liked it but fairly repetitive "teens go to college in the 80's" story. Liked Linklaters other stuff like Boyhood and Dazed and Confused and this had a similar style.

7/10

Yes, I managed to buy the BR of that a few months ago. Funny how kids films back then seemed to show breasts (even the 1981 Clash of the Titans), but the new fantasy films do not..

redcard You can't say that! Hawk the Slayer was fantastic.

It's one of my "guilty secret" films. "Crow" the elf and Jack Palance. Top 1980s film! paperbag

Four Warriors - Beyond bad, if I could give negative marks I would. I lasted 5 mins

Wrong Cops - nearly as bad, still negative mark territory though. I lasted about 6 minutes.

Truly execrable

There is something about a few pre-CGI fantasy films, some had real soul and decent character development who you can fully empathise with. A good case in point for me is Clash of the Titans, the 1981 version does have ropy effects by todays standards, but for some reason, we (including kids) still prefer it to the 2010 version. I think that the reason is that the latter is hollow/bereft of any soul, and the former has it in spades. CGI most certainly isn't everything.
Same with films like Alien and The Thing, they used actual costumes and animatronics which relatively speaking, still look good today. In comparison to films from the 90's and even 00's with CGI that has aged horrendously.

For a 37 year old film it still amazes me how good the Xenomorph looks.

Has anyone seen Suicide Squad yet? I was going to go at midnight but the reviews didn't inspire me (I know I have my own mind) not only that but the price of the local Cineplex for four of us (without drinks and snacks) was £65! I drove 160 miles, tickets and snacks for four last week in a beautiful quirky cinema and in total (inc fuel) it cost £45 !
Seperate thread running, user reviews are much, much stronger than many of the critics. For what it's worth me and the wife both really enjoyed it, great fun.

Transporter Refueled. A pile of st, Ed Skrein is no Stath. Stunts are so so. Some lovely drifting and smoking the rear tyres only (kinda impressive for a quattro... as is the full lock-up screeching to a halt). 35% (mainly because it's streets better than the other 2 films I attempted to watch earlier!)

I watched both Predator and The Running Man on regular (freeview) TV in the last week.

I must say I love both of those films.

Yes, I'm a massive Arnie fan but even so, the testosterone produced in Predator is off the scale, so many macho guys and some great lines and action in Running man.

Great films in my opinion.
Yip, same, both are excellent. THe Running Man has dated slightly with the tech, but Predator is timeless thanks to it's setting, and you'll never equal that cast now. Jesse the Body had done it all, love his stories.

Watched Eddie the Eagle last night.

"Based on a true story"

More like "We made everything up, apart from his name and the bit about the Olympics".

The lad from Kinsgsman played Eddie by doing a bad impression which resembled someone with special needs, Hugh Jackman played an entirely ficticious coach with more than a hint of Wolverine.

5/10 - should have tried harder, much harder.

Suicide Squad - 7/10

Not as bad as the critics say but not as good as the fanboys think.

Will Smith good
Margot Robbie very good and just stunning
Jared Leto annoying but a decent joker
Some other guys ok

Worth a watch.

The Good, The bad and the Ugly.

I haven't wanted to watch this for decades, as I assumed it would ruin my childhood memories of it being fantastic.

last night, whilst channel surfing, bored, I came across this, it had just started, so I left it on until I fell asleep. I ended up mesmerised by it, and any fears I had of it being crap withered away. What a fantastic, sprawling piece of storytelling it is, and the cinematography is superb. I ended up ordering the BR of the movie.

They certainly don't make them like this anymore - and I have no real love for Westerns!

Eli Wallach trying to read a note that Lee Van Cleef left, "See You Later, E-eeee", Clint takes the note, "Idiot, It's For You" hehe

Addams Family Values

Sequel which could be argued to be not as good as the, first but I don't remember...

It was stupid, and nuts and really funny if you have that kind of sense of humour, you really have to listen or you'll miss the Wednesday dialogue... which is both dark an funny.

Not sure how the sunny and bright pro-thanks giving would go down these days but the turn with Wednesday and co was silly but funny.

Not sure the anti disney tone did it any good though... might be a story in that?

I have the Clint Eastwood box set of A fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, The good the bad and the ugly and Hang Them High but not watched them for a while.

I stubmlled upon a song recently called The Ecstasy of Gold, so downloaded the soundtrack for The good the bad and the ugly.
