Escape from Alcatraz
The wife chose this on the basis that we went there a few years ago on holiday biggrin

Because most modern films can't hold a shot for more than two seconds and you end up feeling like you've been assaulted, it takes me a while to adjust to the steady pace of older films but that done, this is a really entertaining film. It's not very sophisticated but once things start kicking off it becomes fantastically tense. And it's all reinforced with the fact it's based on reality.

One thing I did find odd was that the two guys who seemed to do most of the work had fairly minor parts.scratchchin

Case 39. Haven't watched it in a while but something reminded me of it.

Properly creepy film IMO, really well done too.

Just watched a screenrant vid
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3zlON4Ct6ss&sp...
and it reminded me that I liked the, 'I can do this all day,' line spoken by a skinny Steve Rogers getting dufffed up by a goon in the First Avenger, a line he repeats as Cap, when getting duffed up by Iron-Man in Civil War. biggrin

Suicide Squad - 6/10

Man I was so looking forward to this...it had so much potential! But for the love of all that is holy, why would you put Cara Delvine in it??? She's a terrible actress, I had to actually turn away from the screen as it was so cringe-worthy. Well that and the fire blowing fella who after spending a few hours with the other anti-hero's considered them family... This could have really put the franchise back on track. Seems like the film was 18 rated to start with, but they edited it to be PG and that lost a lot in translation...

(Thought Margot robbie and Joker were excellent).

same with BvS, the unaltered ultimate edition while not a great film, is a least decent one, vs the edited down version we got in the cinema.

With Suicide Squad, even hard of seeing could see there was ropey editing going on. One of the best lines from the trailer was left out, and one of the best lines from the trailer was utterly mangled, both spoken by Harley.
Makes me wonder how late into the day the edits were happening.....

Having only seen the Ultimate Edition, what was cut for the theatrical release?

Watched Deadpool for the second time last night.

It's brilliant, hilarious, the in-jokes for fans are great and the overall piss take out of itself makes it even better. One of my favourite lines in the movie is, "I'm taking you to Professor Xavier," Deadpool replies "which one? McAvoy or Stewart, these timelines get confusing."

A lot of the Marvel/DC stuff doesn't do too well on rewatch, but Deadpool definitely does.

hehe

I bought the Ultimate Edition BR, and actually quite enjoyed it. I haven't seen the shortened version, though, even though that's also included with my BR package.

If they bring out a longer version of Suicide Squad, that makes more sense, I shall buy that, too.

5/10... With such a cast it should have been much better, but turned out to be predictable and boring.

What's the thoughts on Bridge of Spies?

Didn't get round to watching it and fancy something to watch over the weekend.

It's not 'action', but a well paced thoughtful piece (based on a very true story). Great performances by both Rylance and Hanks.

I think I gave it 7.5/10 at the time

I think this is the perfect film to sit down and relax to, after a long, hard days work. A little slow moving perhaps, but compelling viewing aided by the excellent acting from all concerned, hanks and Rylance especially.
