I bought this box set over the weekend:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00AHCKLIM/ref...
Prometheus To Alien Blu ray, 8 discs and only £15 - £3 per film! Never got to watch the films, which contain two versions each for Alien and Aliens, as the special features are so many; I ended up watching them - and I still haven't cracked the surface of the material on these discs! Absolute bargain.
Wow - is BR going the way of DVD and CD already? This and Predator box set for a £5 are bargains
Yes, I got that Predator box set for a Fiver , too. That is also rammed with extras on each film disc

Is there a thread covering best new series etc?

Like this thread but looking for a new series for the coming winter, we've not done a series since 24, house and prison break so very out of touch!

Tried breaking bad a while back but didnt do it for us within first couple of episodes (maybe it was our mood at the time)

Any suggestions? Really like the looks of the upcoming westworld but dont even know where its showing yet..

(Appolgies for thread hijack)
I would certainly give Breaking Bad another go, simply superb! Making a Murderer will have you watching episode after episode (and shouting at the screen!) smile

Breaking Bad has one of the very best opening episodes ever. Personally found it dragged a bit, but still entertaining.

I binged Strager Things this weekend. Not usually my thing but kept me hooked, very well done.

Making a Murderer, worth a watch for sure.

If you have Netflix watch 'Making a Murderer' and 'Stranger Things', both are only about 8 episodes but are great.

If you really want to get your teeth into a box set then I would say try 'The Shield' it is superb, very gritty and gets better and better.

Or 'Dexter' will maybe be up your street, entertaining with dark humour throughout, I loved it but they maybe could have ended it sooner.

The Shield without doubt thumbup

Game of Thrones if you haven't already.

It appears that I've just bought the predator box set. Oh and obviously a blu ray player as I don't have one anymore....

Breaking Bad's got a great start and a great finish, but middle's a pain in the arse with Jessie being a constant, well, pain in the arse. But if you fancy something lighthearted why no go for Cold Feet ahead of the new series starting next week or something like Suits? Or perhaps The Sopranos, you can't get much better.

Breaking bad took me a couple of attempts to get into.
Arrested development filled a few afternoons when nothing was on.

Gladiator (again) - loved it! Some of the dialog was a little muffled but as a 'cinematic event' it's pretty much perfect 95%

Sing Street. Really enjoyed this one. Great film/musical set in 1980's Dublin about a kid who transfers to a new school and forms a band. Great soundtrack (both the original songs for the film and some classic 80's stuff), very funny in parts, really great cast of unknowns (especially the main character's brother who steals every scene he's in). The ending lets it down a bit but I'll give it a very solid 8/10 and watchable for the whole family.

Rewatched Godzilla (2014) last night.

Not as bad as I remember from the cinema, but a definite lack of actual Godzilla. Much more satisfying than the ´90s one.

I liked the ending. It's heroic and intentionally over-the-top.

10 Cloverfield Lane, a claustrophobic thriller starring John Goodman, and only two other characters.

Pretty good, a few shock moments and a strange sci-fi third act which seems completely out of pace with the rest of the film.

7.5/10

Oh and

Independence Day Resurgence

Well I guess this obvious remake may appeal to some. Bilge.
eh!, the exact same two I watched this weekend.

Agree on both points Independence day was complete dross & cloverfield lane would have worked so much better if they had ended where she exits, looks over the field and says "you've got to be kidding me". Cut to black and roll credits there so it was left to our imagination what was outside

American Heist

Adrien Brody miscast badly as a jailbird with tats, meeting up with brother who is trying to go straight - the inevitable happens, none of it convincingly 4/10

Good Kill

Much better, Ethan Hawke plays a drone operator killing Taliban targets while safely in Vegas, nicely taught, well acted and thought provoking critique of "collateral damage" etc. 8/10

Natural Born Killers. I've heard the name of the film quite a bit over the years but new nothing about it when i started to watch it. My opinion is divided in two really. For the first 75% of the the film i was inclined to turn it off and would have scored it a 2/10. Fortunately it got better at the end, which was more of a 7/10.

Too much OTT camerawork for my liking. Reminds me of when you show someone how to use filters on their camera phone and they insist on using them for absolutely everything from then on. Shame Tarantino didn't direct it as well as write it (directed by Oliver Stone). Apparently he wasn't too impressed with the final result. Some seem to love it though and its certainly different to the Hollywood norm. Great performance by Tommy Lee Jones too.
