The last film watched was The Great Escape last week . Haven't seen it for ages and even my other GF genuinely enjoyed it considering she had reservations because 1. It's a war film and 2. It was made in 1963.

Tonight I`m tackling the `Worlds fastest Indian`.

True. Hawk The Slayer is another low-budget brit gem worth hunting out.Hope they do a remake - so people appreciate the 1st one.
Loved that as a kid, along with The Beastmaster and Krull.
Jack the Giant Killer and Masters of Universe another two great ones

That is a great movie - and that's from someone who has no interest in bikes whatsover!

agree on the World's Fastest Indian - great film. As for Jack The Giant Killer, I take it you mean the 60's one?

Hell or High Water - no cliche untouched - cowboys, indians, bank robbers, damsels

but the pacing, acting, music and cinematography are spot on - simple but brilliant, and funny 9/10

The '62 film? I've nevr seen it, not sure if I've even heard of it! And they used to show the SInbad films all the time.

Yeah, World's Fastest Indian, love that film, it's not really about bikes, it's more of an odyssey. Great window into a life.

Divergent
Post-apocalyptic society divides people into different groups according to their personality types in effort to ensure peace and stability in pseudo-facist state. Bad guys want to take charge, 'divergents', who don't fit into the groups and hunted down but ultimately are the heroes who save the day (quelle surprise!). Clearly aimed at the young adult audience and teen girl empowerment, enjoyed it nonetheless.

6/10

The sequel, Insurgent is up on tonight's watch list.
Watched Divergent on your comments, because I love a good distopia and because the only alternative on Prime was "Paddington" or some such...

It's essentially the Hunger Games with slightly fewer ridiculous outfits and set in an urban environment.
To be honest the post-apocalyptic world is a lot more realistic but the plot seemed utterly contrived since the bad guys appeared to have absolutely zero reason to be bad.

Despite not being a teen girl I felt compelled to watch to the end so 6/10 seems fair!

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
Didn't have much expectation as it looked like fairly predictable Hollywood fayre, but I was surprised to find that I really enjoyed it. It's all a bit silly of course, but I quite liked the off-reality tone and it looked great, not least for the fantastic scenery. I think would appeal to anyone with the travel bug.

I had drank quite a lot of wine though.

Black Mass

Life and crimes of Boston gangster Whitey Bulger, played by J Depp.

Components all there for a decent movie (subject, setting, period, cast, old US cars etc) but I found it boring.

Re Walter Mitty as below, agree, surprisingly good film.

Should have watched 'Paddington', it's a 7/10 at least.

Ha!
Well since there is now nothing left on Prime, it looks like my only option!

The Wolf of Wall Street

Interesting story and decent performances on the whole but I found the film making itself lacking somewhat. There were obvious over-dubs and some odd editing which looked liked Scorsese was hiding continuity errors but in some cases it made & compounded them. These flaws served to take me out of the movie and look at it rather than watch it.

meh.

I read the book first, and was hoping the film would be as good. I don't know why, I can't remember the last time a film was as good as the book, but it was just a bit of a let-down.

Never is a film as good as a good book. It's impossible.

Generally speaking I would agree, but can think of a few where my conclusion was otherwise. This could be a new thread "films better than the book".

Harry Potter and The Order Of The Phoenix and Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince.

The Shawshank Redemption

(Kill me) Fahrenheit 451

Betty Blue

Ten Things I Hate About You (ok, an Elizabethan play rather than a book).

Any film version of anything by Dickens.
