The Accountant - utter nonsense but brain out fun 6/10
I absolutely loved it...really nicely paced leading to the crescendo. I'm 8.5/10
Think I could watch that quite a few more times too...
Autistic bloke, real good with numbers does the books for the dark nasty underworld, he's also trained in the ways of every martial art/tactical warfare naturally. He HAS to finish a job otherwise he loses the plot, and in this case finishing the job means using everything he knows. Ben Affleck doesn't need to act...some decent dry humour and some great set pieces. Consider me entertained.

Dr Strange - a glorious effects overload....with hopefully some decent back stories and development to come - oh - An amazing surgeon loses the use of his hands and turns to mystic healing to recover.... then all hell breaks loose.

Colt 45 - French cop thriller with video game levels of shootouts. 6/10
watched this over the weekend, after it sitting in my sky planner and me having to be in the right mood for subtitles

was good but not as good as I was expecting, good realism in the shootouts though

Krampus - 7.5/10

It's left me wanting more accessible horror movies, particularly ones that don't take themselves too seriously.
Try the Pistonheads No1 movie then- Tremors

I Saw The Devil

South Korean serial killer revenge flick, good balance of pace and (sometimes rather extreme) violence, great cinematography and score, mostly predictable plot but still very engaging.

Not quite up there with Old Boy but a strong 7.5/10

I'd forgotten just how good this film was although I will confess a weakness for 70's mafia / hitman / funny money genre movies. Walter Matthau was a shrewd hombre right from the opening sequence and you don't mess with big Jo Don Baker. Would you laugh in the face of that brute when he says his name is Molly? John Vernon convinces as the top hood, especially when he suggests his boys might get medieval on the bank managers ass with pliers and a blow-torch cos he had just lost a serious wedge of mafia's loot.

Quentin Tarantino might make a future note of that form of persuasion when he writes Pulp Fiction.

It come hard on the heels of watching The Outfit - this time Robert Duvall and Jo Don are partners and take on the mob headed up by a steely Robert Ryan. The slinky Cherie North in both. Not forgetting Lee Marvin in Point Blank where John Vernon finally gets his cum-uppance. It wasn't too long before that, when Robert Duvall got his key role as the taxi driver taking Frank Bullitt around town for clues.

Several films hark back to this period including the recent TV film featuring the Stath as 'Parker '.

Anybody recommend any similar. I've just ear marked 'Two Guns' off Amazon for another fix when it drops through the letter box. Suggestions welcome.

Yeah cv is great. Yes and molly is fantastic but ahem not very PC in the we house or repossessing the car.

That and pellham inspired Tarantino

Two guns isn't of that style I'm afraid too action less thinking.

"The town "maybe and also a heist movie with no honestly Keane reeves might fit the bill can't remember the name but it's very good. Found it http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1220888/?ref_=nm_flmg_...

Possibly gone baby gone gone, not quite but similar corruption police and pacing I suppose. I'm afraid they don't make many like that these days.

Go back a few years for something like " red rock west" or " one false move" but they are probably more modern noir

He Never Died

Offbeat, blackly comic story of an man trying to forget his violent past and so weary of life all he does is sleep, watch TV and play bingo - until the daughter he didn't know he had turns up. And he gets mixed up with the mob. Oh, and he's an immortal cannibal too. Henry Rollins plays it deadpan to great effect. Odd, but good.

7/10

Safe

Usual Jason Statham fare - never mind the plot, enjoy the fights and awful American accent biggrin

6/10

I might be off on the genre a bit but:

not exactly cop but crime - Prisoners
certainly Fargo
not cops but a great film - Mystic River
Inside Man
American Hustle
Tell No One

Brilliant film, I watched this as part of Moviedrome or something, presented by Cox of the other one.
One of those forgotten 70s classics, and Walter Mathhau is one of the greats of US cinema, hands down.

"I can't take it anymore, Felix, I'm cracking up. Everything you do irritates me. And when you're not here, the things I know you're gonna do when you come in irritate me. You leave me little notes on my pillow. Told you 158 times I can't stand little notes on my pillow. "We're all out of cornflakes. F.U." Took me three hours to figure out F.U. was Felix Ungar!"

Some of thos 70s films might be rready to be remade....*dodges wrenches!*

Flew to Philadelphia yesterday, wasn't expecting any films at all on a 757, but Delta have recently upgraded everything so there was plenty of choice.

X-Men - Apocalypse - Nothing particularly new or exciting, but still enjoyable 7/10

The Nice Guys - was properly getting into this and had some funny moments, but the editing was so bad entire conversations were missed making it hard to follow, so turned off halfway through. Enjoyed what I saw though - had almost a Big Lebowski feel to it - so will definitely be watching it in full when I get back.

Point Break (the remake) - absolute turd, not entirely sure what it adds to the original, turned off in a rage halfway through when they started diving underwater for 5 minutes at a time.. Bunch of arse - -100/10

Dr Strange. Actually a lot better than I was expecting, (wanted to go see Arrived but it's not out till Thursday).

Anyway it was pretty decent, the visuals I think are set for 3D, and basically exactly the same as Inception.

6.5/10 for a Marvel film.

2017 should be epic on the film front thou judging by the trailers - Wonder Woman, GOTG & Star Wars - even Logan looks pretty decent from the trailer.

Volcano - 2/10 Not the first time watching this blockbuster, but I seemed to have realised its utter, utter st.
Tommy Lee Jones plays some sort of council dick with power, a maverick but he gets the job done God dammit.

He has the worlds most useless daughter, who when faced with walking away from lava, fire or a falling building finds this utterly impossible and manages to fight every evolutional survival instinct going with great success.
Holding a ripped T-shirt on a mans bleeding leg is a task to great for this little bint. At one point she has to be saved by her dad for simply not walking out of the way of lava moving at a mile an hour, this resulted in the death of two fireman. Well I say resulted, rather than rescue a trapped man in a fire engine, tommy lee spends 5 minutes staring at the camera.

That said, tommy lee does manage to build a dam in 45 minutes with concrete road blocks stopping the lava. Naturally, the lava ignores the lack of a concrete fillet at the base and grouting so as not to burn the umpteen firemen stood inches away from hundreds of gallons of lava.

It was just fking hopeless.

Operation Petticoat;

One of the tightest scripts of any American war film. Really funny in places. And Cary Grant urinating in a sink was absolutely priceless.

Great film.

Train to Busan

...in the original Korean without subtitles, so I missed out on a lot of the 'class division' aspects but it's still bloody good zombie fun, and refreshes a genre which was getting a bit stale. Recommended.
