Hell or High Water, very good, Chris Pine excellent
Miss Peregrines - Surprised how much we liked this, definitely worth a watch
Slash - Very engaging and funny for such a low budget "teen" film
Alice Through the Looking Glass - Ummmm, ok I guess, wotsisface as the time guy was good
Dog Eat Dog - Great, recommend, like others, want to be an arm dealer
Don't Think Twice - Unusual theme, fairly well played
Capsule - Incredibly predictable and a big let down, lead actor did his job
Laid In America - Ok if you're on the beers and want some cheap laughs
Legend of Tarzan - Two hours too long, bring back Johnny Weismuller
Secret Life of Pets - Good, usual funny family film with a few older laughs
Peanuts Movie - Very good, could easily watch again

Indepedendence Day - Resurgence.

Just. Don't.

Ruined.
The original was one of the most spectacularly dire films ever made. Why would a sequel be any better?

The Magnificent 7 - Started really well but slowed off until the 35 minute gun battle at the end (which was really well done)

Platoon - Brilliant. Just brilliant.

Loads of genuine ww2 Russian military hardware in it!
Especially the cardboard Tiger tank with wobbling barrel. I thought that film was awful.

HyperNormalisation (BBC iPlayer) Adam Curtis film about how we're fed a hugely over simplified version of what's actually going on and what that had led to. Also how control of society has shifted from politicians to large institutions.

Probably a bit long, but held my attention and some interesting points made - 7/10

The COming War on China by John Pilger.
Brilliant. A tracking of the escalation currently under-way to trap China into immobility.

I remember renting out a film more than a few times in the '80's, and yesterday, I remembered what it was called, and managed to find it on Blu ray. So tonight, I will be watching (although I don't know how it will hold up, haven't seen it in three decades), 1983's The Right Stuff, about America's early journey's into space, breaking the sound barrier etc. It has Ed Harris, so can't be bad..

I'm only 40 minutes in so far. It's not often that documentaries can shock me but what a disgrace the situation in the Marshall Islands is. I wasn't aware what had gone on there before watching this, probably down to how well the US have covered it up

Wild Card - Jason Statham snooze fest (apparently a remake of an equally mediocre 80's Burt Reynold film). Managed half the film before I had to turn it off lest I became catatonic from boredom.

3/10 and two of those are for Sofia Vergera's assets in the opening section.

Yes, McAvoy is just brilliant as a complete bd Edinburgh CID Det Sgt going completely off the rails and then some. Hilarious in places, yet almost unwatchably bleak and dark at times. Excellent film adaptation of the Irvine Welsh book.

My favourite film. Probably not everybody's cup of tea, particularly at 3hrs 15 mins, but an excellent cast with Harris, Scott Glenn, Dennis Quaid, Sam Shepard et al. Atmospheric, great soundtrack and fabulous flying/space scenes all using modelwork and no CGI in sight.

Well, I have just watched this, and you are quite correct, it is an amazing film, and not aged as much as I thought it would (after not seeing it for 30 years)

Highly recommended.
