Point break.

Why is it so hard for them to develop characters.

Makes the first one like a work of art.

None of utahs actions were believable just poor very poor.

Loads of genuine ww2 Russian military hardware in it!
Especially the cardboard Tiger tank with wobbling barrel. I thought that film was awful.
Yeah the Tiger was a joke; the gun mantlet wasn't even on straight. But the actual Russian vehicles fighting it were real, and I liked that.

Watched Siege of Jadotville this evening.

Based on real events, of 150 Irish UN troops fighting off several thought Belgian, French, and Rhodesian mercenaries.

Good film, with LOADS of Series 2 Land Rovers to boot.

Suicide Squad.

So much potential wasted. Great soundtrack though (and HQ was smoking hot).

5/10

(I understand the DVD/Blu Ray release is an extended cut, anyone know what additional scenes/story is added?)

I have a soft spot for most things zombie-related, most films are utter dirge, but one that was a pleasant surprise is The Rezort, starring Dougray Scott and Clare Goose!
It centres around a post apocalyptic safari, and offers paying guests the opportunity to kill zombies in the wake of an outbreak, which has been beaten back.

It sounds total crap and shouldn't work, but it wasn't half bad. Good production, decent acting and a smattering of social commentary. It is much better than it ought to be, given the title...

So, if you like these kinds of films, it is worth hunting down, not brilliant, but not bad either, for this type of film.

Yes, McAvoy is just brilliant as a complete bd Edinburgh CID Det Sgt going completely off the rails and then some. Hilarious in places, yet almost unwatchably bleak and dark at times. Excellent film adaptation of the Irvine Welsh book.
It's on CH4 at 11pm tomorrow for anyone that's not seen it yet.
Thanks for the heads up. Very good, with a powerhouse performance from McAvoy.

We watched Bad Santa last night, thought I had seen it before but as it turns out, definitely not.

You have to be in the right frame of mind but for me it was hilarious! BBT does a great job of being a complete b&%*$^d!

Magnificent 7

Started well, then when the gattling came out became very silly indeed, my hand was hovering over the off switch.

Watched the latest Netflix Original movie "Spectral".

Enjoyable Sci-Fi tosh. 7/10. Worth a watch. The effects are excellent and there are plenty of solid, workmanlike performances from a decent cast. All IMO, of course.

The Accountant - didn't go in expecting anything, I'd never seen a trailer or read a synopsis, all I knew was that Ben Affleck was in it.

Actually not a bad watch and kept me entertained for a couple of hours.

I suspect if I watched it again I might notice the plot was utter bks, but they did manage to latch onto a concept that perfectly fits the Affleck style of 'acting'.

[b]Kubo and the two Strings[b] Mesmerising animated film based loosely on a Japanese 'legend'... young lad avenges the death of his mum.
The story wasn't the a strongest, but the visuals are so utterly gorgeous, I just had to keep watching...6.5/10...and whilst you're watching you think you know it's all done and it's seems pretty cool.
Then you find out all the stuff that actually went into making it....

Saw Sully this w/e - really enjoyed it - except:
parabolica said:
Only concern from me was how they played the NTSB as the villians - although they make it clear they are just doing their jobs - the characters used to portray NTSB come across as if they are out to get Sully and his crew which just isn't true.
Spot on - first half of the film its all scowly looks across the table at Sully, and then in the final hearing when Sully makes them re-run the human simulation with the 35 sec delay time and the plane predictably crashes, all their lips are so pursed that its like a row of cats arses on the bench. I was half expecting them to shake their fists and say "you pesky kids, we nearly got away with this!". I mean, seriously, wouldnt the NTSB have factored in the communication/decision time into their simulations from the off? That was the first thing i thought of and i have no knowledge/interest in aviation (and am pretty dense generally). Then as soon as they hear the cockpit recording they all instantly change their tune and start weeping and wanting to high-five Sully? They really wouldnt have heard the recording before the hearing?
Im guessing the real hearing was quite a formal dispassionate affair that wouldnt have made good cinema?

Otherwise, great film and would recommend.

I thought the ending was quite funny! Without spoiling too much the mystery phone girl.

Pretty much the same from me. Not a big Affleck fan and it just looked like a random action flick from the trailer. I really enjoyed it. A few twists and turns, some I figured out and some I didn't, great action and pretty gripping throughout. Definitely recommend it to anyone wanting a bit of entertainment.

We watched this last night. A quite decent movie with good production values and reasonably turns from b grade film stars. (If you watch it with the mrs be prepared for a lot of "what was he in?" questioning)
More than a nod towards great action flicks like aliens, black hawk down etc..
crucially slick editing means the whole thing is 110 minutes or so, bucking the current trend for everything to be a bloated 3 hours.

I do lament the death of decent editing.....

8/10
