Mystery Road - watched on BBC IPlayer tonight with 24 days left to view.

a cracking full length film about an Aborigine who returns to his old small town as a cop trained in the big city and is put on a case about a murdered girl which nobody else seems interested in.

Its a slow burner but the heat is on, both tension wise and atmospherically and ramps up to a great finale.
Slowly he peels back the skin of small town Australia ( quite possibly twinned with Jaywick )

Sit back with sufficient tinnies to last 120 minutes - you won't regret it.
8/10

CitizenFour -10/10

Kermode was talking about this with the release of Snowden and spoke highly of it, so I thought it was time to check it out. Despite obviously knowing the outcome this was the most tense thing I've watched full stop. Pretty incredible and terrifying, who would have thought a few guys sat talking in a hotel room would be that intense!

In The Heart Of The Sea 7/10

One of 2015´s box office disasters. Ron Howard´s take on the "true" story behind Moby Dick, starring Chris Hemsworth and a fine supporting cast.

Not as terrible as you´d expect, and some fine set-pieces.

Watched the latest Netflix Original movie "Spectral".

Enjoyable Sci-Fi tosh. 7/10. Worth a watch. The effects are excellent and there are plenty of solid, workmanlike performances from a decent cast. All IMO, of course.
Stuff you get on netflix, is it mostly on amazon prime too?

What I don't really understand is how "exclusive" just isn't really.
House of Cards is all over iTunes and even Sky Go now, IIRC.

But are any of them totally exclusive?
(I really wanted to get Mummy Walm "The Crown" on DVD for Xmas - she doesn't do "the streaming".)

In cases like Spectral, Stranger Things etc on Netflix, or Mr Robot, The Man in the High Castle etc on Amazon, they actually own the distribution rights (as in most cases they actually produced the content), so they are as exclusive as they want them to be.

They can monetize them as they wish, release them on DVD, offer them to online distribution services (Sky Store, Apple TV etc) and so on, but they're unlikely to do that whilst the shows/movies are still attracting new subscribers. You're very unlikely to see them on rival services as part of your subscription, but they may offer them for sale/rent via those other platforms (which really is no different to releasing a DVD).

House of Cards is available on Sky Store to purchase, not Sky Go (so not available 'free' to Sky subscribers).

Agree

Watched it the other night and enjoyed it quite a bit. Good performances as as said the effects are top notch. Like the pretty original idea behind the bad things too.

Watched it last night and thought it was great. My kind of film with a slow build up and gritty surroundings. A sequel has been made but the reviews aren't as good unfortunately.

Rogue one

The first half hour or so is a little bit messy (goes from planet to planet a bit too much imo) but once things settle down it's very very good.
In the words of shakin Stevens "lovely stuff"

9/10

One thing is I think there might be a slight plot descrepency at the end. I will need to watch the beginning of episode IV to be sure (I should really remember based on how many times I've seen it)

Also proper CGI actors is now a thing. No uncanny valley.

Review somewhat disjointed as only 4 hours sleep.

Still 9/10 though. Go and see it.

At a more socialable time though.

Rogue One - 9/10

Slots in with the original trilogy better than any of the other 4. The final act is utterly superb. Uncanny valley very much still a thing though, two characters done unbelievably badly.

A word of caution for those with youngsters, pretty much every sequence features death and although the action is an absolute joy (particularly on Scarif) the overall tone is incredibly bleak. Much darker than Force Awakens.

Rogue One - 8-9/10.

Nearly worth the lack of sleep.
And I really love my sleep.

Although I suspect all of us posting right now are fan boys (given the timing) so likely to like it!
